Above & Beyond
Above & Beyond are one of the most exciting talents in the global dance music scene today. Their genre-defining productions - often released on their own Anjunabeats label - have become an essential tool for the world's leading DJ's and have set the benchmark for the new generation of trance producers. Above & Beyond - aka Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness and Paavo Siljamki - have recorded under a number of different aliases including Aalto, Free State, Nitromethane, Oceanlab, P.O.S and Tranquility Base.

Equally comfortable behind the decks as in the studio, as DJ's Above & Beyond have rocked dancefloors at venues such as Godskitchen, Gatecrasher and Cream, as well as internationally.

The boys recently scooped Radio 1s prestigious Essential Mix Of The Year Award, prompting Radio 1 resident Pete Tong to describe them as the UKs new trance superstars.

As DJs Above & Beyond have scooped Radio 1s Essential Mix Of The Year Award in 2004 and are ranked in the top 10 in DJ Magazines latest Top 100 DJs poll. A&B perform regularly at the worlds biggest dance festivals and clubs and are residents at Cream Amnesia in Ibiza.

Above & Beyond have enjoyed two top 20 hits in the UK - including Satellite under their Oceanlab alias - and have remixed the likes of Madonna, Britney Spears and Dido, prompting Radio 1's Pete Tong to describe them as the UKs new trance superstars.

Above & Beyond's weekly Trance Around The World radio show has built a fanatical global following on the internet and via its worldwide syndication on FM stations and XM Satellite Radio in the US. The show stands at the forefront of trance and has been responsible for breaking many of the scene's biggest records.

The best records from the show and from the trios respected Anjunabeats label (If theres a more on point label were yet to find it Mixmag) feature in Above & Beyonds popular Anjunabeats Volume compilation series. The latest episode, Anjunabeats Volume Five, was released in summer 2007.

w00h00!

Posted by Dj Blurr on Sep-22-2007 20:31:

I remember a rave in 2002... Im pretty sure it was Atlantis...Justine Suissa was out here, and a group called Oceanlab was out here performing.

I remember all my friends, dance team members.. and everyone gathering in the front as she sang Sky Falls down. The rave wasent all that great, but being there with my closest friends, and memebers of our dance crew was great...

I remember catching a glimspe of the performers in the back, and realizing in that the performers I saw playing the background were none other than Djs Jono Grant and Paavo Olavi Siljamki...

Not having seen them in person, I had no idea these were members of Above and Beyond.

Meeting them on stage at the 2005 "LoveParade" *(Lovefest 2005) I got a chance to thank Jono and Tony.. Paavo was no where to be found, but was able to say thanks none the less by providing custom made T-Shirts I gave them the night of their 2006 performance at 1015.

Me in the background: In Full Rave Gear... In the background, Steve Albert of Kyau and Albert, and Mike Koglin was off to my left.

Whats funny to me is...this picture can actually be found on above and beyonds website, in their gallery. Ive tried to tell Paavo this, but I derno if he can hear me over the crowd...

I remember turning to one of my closest friends Todd and saying to him that someday,... someday I wanna do that, and perform live in front a crowd of people, screaming and wanting more. this is great. I really wanna be able to touch people with my music and take it to this level just like this.

My friend Todd looked and me and smiled, and said anythings possible bro, and Im sure if you put your heart in it, someday it will happen..

Unfortunately, in 2 sunmers later in 2004, Todd abruptly passed away. A victim of a drug overdose. Ill be dedicating my opening performance to him & the memories we shared together as ravers.

If there is any group Im honored to open up for. Its Above & Beyond. Practically every Dj I have asked, everyone who loves EDM, loves Anjunabeats...

2 Raves before, is where a raver whom I gave a lightshow to gave me my raver and Dj name, Blurr....

Welcome home Above and Beyond.. I know I speak for many of us saying we are glad your coming home.

PHOTOS ON ABOVE AND BEYONDS WEBSITE OF THEIR 2007 PERFORMANCE AT 1015 FOLSOM.

More on this night soon. Im off to pickup my new M Audio Firewire 610.

Good ear John! Had to check it out for myself and it's pure gold. Breakfast is one of the hottest producers right now. It's no wonder Ferry took him on his label. Now he's got a signing to Anjuna!

I dont think it was a Pop rave...

Skwallie helped remind me tonight.. Skwallie was pretty much there with me too, just in a different area of the room...

But tha night was simply amazing. EVERYONE was singin with Justine.

I also met Justine a little off to the right of the stage that night also after she got off. I told her that her voice was captivating and I loved her vocals.

Very sweet and sexy lady I might add.

I'm pretty sure V-Man is right. It was a Popsicle that year. They even have a "famous" picture of me singing my ass out that night. (don't post by the way.)

At the time I had no idea who Above & Beyond were. I didn't know that they were the genius behind Oceanlab.

Nah was it? It was that wherehouse party they had out in...

Uhm.., Ok maybe it was. I remembered I didnt like going there because it was sooo dirty. Im sure it was either altantis or moonshine over america...

Mystical Mayhem or Coolworld maybe?

I remember getting sick that year, alot of people got sick too.

I remember an Atlantis party being somewhere by the freeway near the Bay Bridge on the Oakland side. They had huge tents as rooms.

Now that I think of it the Pier they had at were huge warehouse separated into 3 areas. I can see where you might have gotten it confused since Oakland has all those warehouses. It wasn't nearly as nice as Bill Graham is and you are right, it was really dirty and had an underground feel to it. The trance room didn't accommodate all the people who were there to see Above & Beyond's set after. The room was way PACKED!!!!

Since you do not want the original posted, I will post the "Updated" version, though it does not capture the spirit that you bestowed on us that faithful Halloween weekend in 2004 for Popsicle.

One day, when Oceanlab returns, I hope to finally see the re-emergence of "Mr. Reaction"!
hahaha, I'm looking at "the original version" right now, and noticed you had a mustache back then...

Posted by Dj Blurr on Sep-26-2007 10:08:

Not sure how ima do it though... Ill post it via myspace invite.

I know everyones gonna want on it, so stay tuned.

\o/ Blurr
