Kiwis in the media...

What is with the huge influx of Kiwis into Aussie media of late, especially the radio?

I hardly listen to the radio or watch TV, but every time I do, I hear some idiot saying "phone un noiw for your chince to wun a bug prize!"

...or something like that.

Why would a commercial radio station bother to hire a New Zealander with a stupid accent, surely there are hundreds of Australians who would want the job???

Advertising regulations that required a certain percentage of media to be produced in Australia where relaxed some time ago.

Course they pay for NZ ads, they're substantially cheaper than making them in Australia.

No, I'm talking about Kiwi radio hosts and DJs, as well as on TV at times!

p.s You can tell ads made in NZ, even when they have Aussie voice-overs! Kiwis just have that "daggy" look to them...

Me, i dont watch much Tv or listen to the Radio, although Bro'Town on SBS shits me up the wall... I don't understand the humour in it.

Like anyone else that stumbles into the country with a work visa and qualifications they find work fairly quickly. If you hadn't noticed, there is a fair bit of a shortage at the moment finding employees.
(And the NooZoolund dollar is worth bugger all!)

Scouse is pretty terrible and Glaswegian isn't even english either.

I still don't understand why Nova (the station I have in mind) would hire a Kiwi (I think they have two?!). Radio jobs are fairly sought after, despite the complete knobs that get them (those Johnny and Jodie dick heads, Kyle Sandilands etc!), surely there is a whole pack of Aussies clambering for these position...yet some fag from across the Tasman with a lame accent gets them...why?

Anyway, she's funnier than most of the fuckwits on radio nowadays.

Definitely been a big push to get people over to NZ. lots of advertising about how great NZ is as a holiday destination. I'm getting spammed by flight centre and Qantas with their deals to NZ quite a bit.

I love the Kiwi accent!
