[Melodic Psy]Celldweller - Frozen (Cybernetika Remix)

Hey,

here is a track I made for the "Frozen" remix competition at celldweller.com, but I didnt get it finished in time. I guess I'll have a try at their new competition, but heres the "Frozen" Remix. Highly melodic, fast and uplifting Psytrance.

Enjoy!

Nice intro. Gets me right in the mood. Great deep bassline.

I liked the atmosphere, and the drive was incredible throughout. I sometimes felt that the percussions were a bit messy, but it didn't matter all that much since they still served the purpose of creating drive.

Dammit Cybernetica, why didn't you get this in on time! It's really great, honestly. I had an entry in that competition, didn't make the finals though, so I recognize your use of the samples, and you used them quite well. Especially the timing of the vocals over the bass transitions.

I like the way the Celldweller contests are put on. More like a remixing community rather than 'here's the parts, mix it, submit it, we'll let you know what happens.'

Good luck with this time around!

Thanks mate,
the percussions are messy, really? Shouldnt layer too many sounds and loops on top of each other I guess. Compressed together it sounds ok though I think.

Ah yeah, that was you where I found out about that Frozen Remix contest. Celldweller used to be one of my fave bands so of course I was really interested in doing that remix, but I started much too late. The deadline for the next contest shouldnt be impossible though. So the "Frozen" remix is only a warmup for the real deal.

Thanks for your feedback, and I totally agree with you about how they organize that remix contest. Remixing is much more motivation when you get instant feedback.

hah, thats weird, cause it works perfectly for me. I'm gonna try and give you an alternate link.

by the way... just send it in anyway. They'll post it up with the other remixes, despite the fact the contest is over. That way it's hosted by them for who knows how long.

NICE job on this one. The percs do sound a little messy, but I'm not really bothered by that. Great job integrating the vocals, too. Thanks for sharing!

Great opening...

Cool kick, not the typical psykick...Yeah the percs do sound kinda messy, but whatever. I like what I'm hearing...

I'm not familar with the origial song, but your track seems to do a good job. This tune almost doesn't sound psy, but more on the lines of just trance.

Good job though!

k, will provide a feedback, i am listening through headphones, right away i hear a nice job on bass, yes kick is somewhat less psy, reminds me of alien project, very trancy, not too dark unlike your previous projects, i find nothing wrong with precussion since this is how you decide you are going to make it, it is absolutely proper in this case, i totally dig this track, in fact i will hear it on large system tonight, once i get home, so far from what i've heard, this is like sugar comparing to your all other work which is spice.

10/10 !!!

p.s. the compression is a bit too much, i know you tryed to make it as loud as possible, and thats where you gotta be delicate, since you're mastering yourself, remind yourself how much time it took you to make the track and how much time it took you to master, and compare the two
it will give you a good idea of what i am talking about, thats why i dont use any mastering tools, except maybe a few limiters and a regional compressor.

You know he's got a point...Being "loud as possible" isn't always good...it can kill those dynamic moments where soomething is about to hit really hard.

Still good track, and Cyber check out my new tune I posted.

cyber, i've heard new frozen ghost album its pretty cool.

btw love the tune, but here is what i think, next time you compress a whole tune, and btw i do not know if you sidechain your bass and kick, i havent got a response from the source whether it is proper in 146 and higher psy, however! next time apply gentle compression, and instead of simply boosting the frequencies, boost up initial elements which you plan to put on stand out without potentially destroying your mix, a few db higher in other words, and then compress. Rour tune should not exceed the limits visually, and the elements you've chosen will dominate the mix. Your frequency then shall fluctuate and you'll be able to see better if there any other elements to crack!

p.s. did you hear? reason 4 is out... i used to crack some choons in 2.5 and 3 a few years ago, until i felt into nuendo.

First Psy Trancer just hit the Switchback contest... Get a move on Cyber and represent.

(For the record, I think the sample use of the one i'm referring to was crummy, you could do much better.)

Ah, I just heard your remix 3F05Q. Pretty great job with the beat and the vocals. Good luck with your entry!
I just made my submission for my Switchback remix, should be up in the next days I hope. Progressive Trance

All you guys, thanks a lot for the comments. MegaMan bro, I know what you mean about the mastering. Its lacking a little punch indeed. I listened to it way too much so I got used to the "wrong" sound. Sometimes you gotta take a break and a little distance to your tune.

Posted by 3F05Q on Oct-01-2007 21:19:

Thanks man, I just submitted a revision for it too... with a bit more vocal treatment at the end.

Well, I WAS going to submit a prog trance version... guess not now! I do have 3 other remixes to finish up, actually. The one I just submitted I only started on a couple days ago. Worked on it from 4-7am... hence "Morning Beats".

Looking forward to hearing yours!

Hmm, better late than never...
It's very 'Cybernetica', regardless of what kind of genre you care to be throwing at it. The percussion after the intro gets a little cluttered and fiddly in spots. Just felt a little like you where trying to pack a little too much in there when it could have been simpler served ticking along on a snare or rolling bassline before you let rip with the synth riffing through the rest of it, which I did like a lot and it rolls along very well to hold the track together.
The vocals tend to get a bit lost in places as well, I don't pretend to know what to do there in terms of suggestion as it's also never going to be easy working into a track with this much drive and energy.

Overall though it's different to what you normally put out and aside from a few little flaws it's an interesting divergence, just a pity you didn't get it into the competition.
