Beatmatching, How Fast Do You Line-Up Two Tracks?

So, how fast can you match 2 tracks (in average)?

I'm somewhere between 10-20.

I voted 20-30. I can get them generally lined up pretty quick. It's spending that extra bit of time listening in the phones to make sure they are locked in that takes some extra time. Granted, I mix at home only, so god knows I'd probably trainwreck in a club dealing with delay and such.

20-30, but I'm very lazy and my match is usually only good for 15 seconds before I have to fix it anyway. I constantly touch the pitch slider and/or jog wheel during transitions.

Less than 10 if I need to, but the more time spent the tighter it is...

I'd say on average 20-30s. Sometimes it is like 5s but sometimes I'll take maybe a whole minute. I'm sure I could cue with the channel fader open and not trainwreck but it wouldn't be all that smooth either.

I take over 30sec. This is because I always want tracks to be perfectly matched. It also takes me about 20sec to listen to these tracks in my headphones to make sure that everything is perfectly synced.

10 or less for me. Beatmatching is such a joke.

10-20. I don't match them exactly though; I'd rather get them fairly close and adjust them while mixing into the track.

depends on the bpm difference between the tracks

i cheat and memorize exactly what % to increase per BPM increase on my cd decks. so its prolly less than 10 seconds.

Depends on the tracks

Where is the 5 minutes - Never option?

Posted by miamitranceman on Sep-25-2007 20:44:

Usually 10-20 for me, but I like to keep the phones on sometimes just in case.

Posted by Tony Morello on Sep-25-2007 22:21:

depends on the tracks, i usually get it pretty damn close in 10

i like to take my time after that to make sure it's tight

it's all about being able to beatmatch on the fly and have it sound good though

what's the point of being able to beatmatch that fast anyways and not having it spot on, you're not gonna be switching over that fast anyways, I rather take 20-30 seconds and make sure it's perfectly beatmatched.

20-30 Seconds for vinyl even tho I would keep beatmatching till i got to the end of the track, cdj 10-20secs.

my thoughts exactly. Matching beat perfectly allows you to play around with other things, such as EQ or possibly mash ups without worrying about adjusting the pitch.

yeah about 10-30 seconds for me....really depends on how tight i want it...

Posted by aLviNx80 on Sep-26-2007 04:56:

can get it close in less than 10 seconds, although it usually takes me 10-30 seconds to have it on perfectly, depending on the track.

Me too, if the beat goes off after 15 secs, that's 0,20%, works 9 times out of 10

Something along the lines of 20-30, sometimes faster, sometimes I get my head messed up and then there are times I switch to a total trainwreck mode as I can't seem to get it right at all. Have to keep training

so.... you let the whole track play with out sticking the other cd in? whenever you want to mix, you stick in the cd and do 10 seconds half ass and then correct while mixing? seems like a waste of time. the tracks are 6 minutes long in average... why not just do it properly the first time?

Posted by nchs09 on Sep-26-2007 05:27:

btw i dont know how you guys can get it perfect in 30 seconds. sometimes it takes 15 seconds before my track starts drifting..... i mean cdj's are that precise, so just waiting for that its 30 seconds.. that would be 45 seconds or 50.

Check my post above, if it gallops after fifteen correct it with 0,2% and 30 sec's 0,1%.. It's not magic, but it works.. Try it..
