Reason 4!

so does anyone have it yet? I was expecting the producers forum to be all the buzz about it, today being the release date and all. personally, the only thing keeping me from buying it is being at school and away from my production computer. talk about seperation anxiety.

Posted by thecYrus on Sep-27-2007 18:45:

i tried the demo yesterday.. but well, reason 4 is still nothing for me.

Posted by Eldritch on Sep-27-2007 20:24:

I ordered my upgrade today.
I can't wait to play with extensively. The time/save limited beta didn't allow for much experimentation.

Vengeance has just released a THOR Soundset! Listening to the audio-demo of it right now! Sounds pretty good!

Holy Crap.

On a sidenote, I hope this lessens the number of anti-reason attitudes.

Some very nice sounds in there indeed. Would be interesting to see what Manuel could do with subtractors and malstroms in Combinators. But yes, it seems that Reason now has a synth which sounds great without any effects added. I'll have to grab the upgrade and this refill.

Posted by Kid_presentable on Oct-01-2007 03:01:

theres a vengeance soundset for the combinator[subtractor, malstrom], called combfusion, made by the vengeance forum members.

Posted by derail on Oct-01-2007 07:33:

that's right...I downloaded that one a while back, haven't tried it out yet...when I upgrade Reason I'll be spending some time playing with Reason 4 anyway, so I'll try it out then...currently it's only getting used as a drum machine, or to load in a drumkit from Reason DrumKits 2 for my non-trance productions...

Posted by Kid_presentable on Oct-04-2007 03:39:

well just got reason 4 thor is the bomb.

I just noticed in the thor soundset it says: "very nice sounding supersaw - as good as the JP one".

What'd they do to it?

Edit:
Nevermind, I just looked at the video...

Posted by Massive84 on Oct-04-2007 16:08:

its shit.

You need to to click allot to get a simple thing done now.

For example pressing space bar stops the song but in Reason 3.0, if you press 2x Enter the cursor goes back to the P point which does not happen now.

Also zooming in is fucking annoying, if you want to zoom to some loop, the freaking window expands but the few bars your zooming @ slides to the left, you have to reslide to get there back (not sure how to put it in words but youl see if you try it).

And everything looks freaking chaotic now. I mean why change the sequencer this much? I love Reason for the fact that it always worked easy and the sound it gave was very nice. I might as well ditch it and learn a new DAW.

To give you a picture, this is how recoil looks like in 4.0

Well i guess we need to readapt, Thor is awesome and i dont think you want to miss that one out.

Posted by phyrrus on Oct-04-2007 19:08:

man, that's really disappointing to hear. I don't know if I can deal with a clusterfucked sequencer. can you at least edit waveforms now, like in ableton?

Posted by Massive84 on Oct-04-2007 20:22:

There is no real wave editing in Reason.

The sequencer will be a tiny bit pain in the start but now i got a bit hang of it again.

Thor is reaaaaaaaaally sweet. if your a reason fan and always been depressed about not having vsts. Thor makes it up, really.

Most important thing about Thor, it's not that hard to master, thats whats so great about Reason. All 3 synths are easy to handle, unlike many VSTs , which is my experience.

Here is a combination of a NN19 bass patch, malstrom elctornic background sound and thor lead and a subtractor choir.

<3 <3 Thor!! The formant filter is so fecking nice. heh sorry for sounding to excited, but i am using reason for over 4 years and its nice to have a new toy to play with

(the melody sucks ) but i like the sound!

That sounds pretty good Massive!

I'm looking forward to sitting down with this in the near future.

Thanks for the share.

Posted by Kid_presentable on Oct-05-2007 14:57:

the sequencer is over complicated in my oppinion. but then again we will all get used to it and it will have its advantages.

R4 is worth getting for Thor anyway

Posted by [Ocean]State on Oct-07-2007 13:34:

Thor is great but I will still rewire to Ableton. I love working with WAV files in Ableton. Reason is a great piece of software. I understand their decision not to include VST support. That would change what Reason is all about but they really should include WAV editing.
