Exclamation Headsup: 2 Incredible Albums (Calvin Harris, Feist)

I've been wanting to fall in love with an album for the last 4 months and nothing has really done it for me. Both of these albums have recently blown me away. (so I feel the need to share lol)

...................................

Calvin Harris - I Created Disco

- Honestly WOW. This guy is like Mylo but x10. So many classic, brilliant dance tracks. His sense of humour + great voice + killer beats = best dance album of the year (imo). Although it should have been made 3 years ago (the electro keys aren't as fresh anymore) it's still a well produced album you'll listen to 6 million times.

1. Merrymaking at My Place <- so good
2. Colours <- fucking hysterical
3. This Is the Industry
4. Girls <- WOWOW
5. Acceptable in the 80s
6. Neon Rocks
7. Traffic Cops
8. Vegas
9. I Created Disco
10. Disco Heat <- HOLY WOW
11. Vault Character
12. Certified
13. Love Souvenier
14. Electro Man

FEIST - The Reminder

- She's kind of a mix between Rufus Wainwright and Bjork... wow what a talent. Apparently she's Canadian too lol Why not, love her.

1. So Sorry
2. I Feel It All
3. My Moon My Man
4. The Park
5. The Water <- as classic as "stairway to heaven", just wow
6. Sealion
7. Past In Present
8. The Limit To Your Love
9. 1234
10. Brandy Alexander
11. Intuition
12. Honey Honey
13. How My Heart Behaves

I love Leslie Feist. FYI, she's in the band Broken Social Scene.

From her first album, one of my faves:

She also covered the Bee Gees' 'Inside and Out' on the same album. <3 <3

Calvin Harris is indeed all kinds of awesomeness...'Girls' has been on high rotation on my playlists, and 'Merrymaking At My Place' is such a fun party tune! (espeially the deadmau5 remix )

+1

when i saw her play mushaboom at the juno's i was hooked. the girl has a freaking incredible voice, great lyrics, and is quirky to boot. artists like her need and deserve more attention. great thread!

Feist is amazing. Mushaboom hooked me as well. And seeing her play life is amazing...her voice has such control over the crowd.

Will definitely look into Calvin Harris though!

Even more than Kate Bush or Imogen Heap?

That new ipod nano commercial is fast destroying my appreciation of Feist. F*ck, am I ever sick of that commerical/song ("1, 2, 3, 4")...

Regardless, Broken Social Scene > Feist.

BSS > Everyone else...

anyone listen to the new Kevin Drew album? any good? no time to d/l..and not sure if i wanna buy before listening to a few more songs besides the one playing on The Edge.

P.S. Fiest is really becoming one of my favorite new solo artists.

I actually love that commercial...cool song too. Apple and Telus definitely have their shit together with their TV ads (although you see them so often, they do become a bit overexposed).

i'm surprised how many people like the calvin harris cd lol. I first heard his stuff back in the spring, and found it catchy, but thought it'd be too cheese for the underground music snobs of TOTA.

even though i find calvins stuff catchy, i think i could enjoy it if i heard it out, but not something i'd really put on myself.

just recently grabbed the feist album and had a chance to listen to it over the last weekend......and i must say WoW!!!

Jon your right, it does sorta have that Bjork sound.....maybe mixed in with a little Metric? and of house a little bit of electronica here and their lol but seriously, if anyone has a chance to pick it up, go for it, you wont be dissapointed!

WOW to Fiest....WOW...I normally dont like this kind of music, at all. But wow her voice is simply soothing...love her most in 1, 2, 3, 4....just brings an instant smile.

Thanks for the headsup...keep it comming

I enjoyed Let it Die more than the Reminder, but that may change with time. I enjoy both her voice as well as her lyrics. I find them quite poetic.

I also find her voice in certain songs (Tout Document) soooo sexy. Sultry may be a better word for it.

While in songs like Let it Die or The Water her voice is haunting. From a gentle whisper to a loud powerful wail.

I enjoyed the recommendation so thank you JonJon and anyone that cosigned.

Ironically so did my dad who overheard it playing in the car. (First time in a long time he complemented me on my musical tastes)

*his exact quote*
"Now this is music, not that vacuum cleaner washing machine crap you usually listen too"

Im embarassed I hadn't given her a listen much sooner.

1, 2, 3, 4.... this is a solid song, but Apple commercials are driving me up the wall hearing it over and over.

PS the video is awesome in full.

Edit:

Really still trying to wrap my head around Feist, typically would be something I would enjoy but im still getting into her-

Best song is "Brandy Alexander" followed by "So sorry"

I just got my hands on this today:

Underworld - Oblivion with Bells

I've been an Underworld fan for quite awhile (they are what got me into electronic music in the first place) and I must say this could be some of their best work... possibly their best since dubnobasswithmyheadman.
