is it better to let it run out of charge before you recharge it? or keep topping the battery up?

yea they say that so dumbasses will do that and it will make their battery run out even quicker so apple can charge them like 100 dollars to replace it or whatever it is.

incorrect, ds's use lithium-ion batteries. if Li-ion batteries get below a certain charge, they will stop working. so naturally they have build in safety devices to stop this from happening, and instead it'll just shut down your ds for you. however if you try to play on an empty battery it could fuck it up, so to avoid this they suggest keeping it as full as possible, same goes for any device powered by li-ion.

edit: this is assuming you use it frequently. over the long run it'll keep its charge better if its stored at about 40%
so if you don't binge on it, just use it for a bit, charge it a little, then leave it unplugged.

hmm interesting. i thought that the more you charge it when it isnt empty, the more it fucks up the battery. this happened on my laptop, i used to have it plugged in all the time and the battery sucks now, and i just purchased the battery 1.5 years ago. thanks for the info though

It is better to take the battery out and light it on fire. That will provide you with a ton of charge!

lol Ive honestly charged mine 3 times that I can remember I think I got a god like battery.
