A State of Trance Podcast 001, with Armin van Buuren

Just thought I'd pass the news along, for those who haven't heard yet...

"Armin van Buuren has been hosting his radio show A State of Trance for over 6 years already. Since the first episode ASOT has been growing and has over 6 million listeners worldwide every single week.

In the digital era everybody is owning an mp3 player or listens to his or her favorite music on their iPod and the podcast is becoming the new radio. When you combine these two facts you can make a simple 1+1 and the result is the A State Of Trance Podcast!

Every week you will be able to listen to the highlights of Armin van Buuren's radio show A State of Trance, whenever you want, wherever you want!"

How is this any different from what people have already been able to do?

It uses a more fashionable word now.

Ah, right - how could I have possibly missed that wonderful new feature.

This is so much more convenient for me than spending every Thursday trying to track down those hard to find links to the show on the rare occasion I miss it live.

Fucking brilliant, IMO.

And if he isn't, I'm boycotting DJ Mag forever!

Those tossers wouldn't know talent if it jizzed in their eye - AMRIN 4 LYFE!!!

so i take it i'm not the only one who finds the concept of podcasts utterly pointless?

nothing in particular against ASOT here, since loads of shows do it. but just about every major internet radio show out there gets recorded & shared online anyway, and in this case, why would people bother with 'highlights' when they can just grab the full thing & flick through it?

it does seem purely a buzzword thing.. for people who've only discovered mp3s/ipods in the past two years

When it comes down to it, there's just no way I can come up with fresh & innovative ideas like podcasting - so really the best I could ever hope for is runner up.

That just shortens the attention span and makes it available for people who can't bear listening to two hours of music straight and want to hear, you know, the best Armin has to offer. It's like a fucking summary of a football match.

I believe this is more of a re-cap of tracks that he played. Not the entire two hours. I could be wrong though...

Podcasting is extremely useful for people who take advantage of RSS to aggregate their constantly updating data. If I had to manually go out and find/download the 20+ shows I watch/listen or the 100+ blogs I read, I'd go completely insane.

Learn the technology. It's more than just a buzzword. ;]

Yes, thank you.

Not really. Apparently you still need to spam it just like any other show.

I guess you don't understand how data aggregation or RSS works. It's ok, a lot of other people don't either. People are slow to adapt.

Do you manually go to a website, even it is has RSS, to see if there is any new content? If so, you have a lot more time on your hands than I do. ;]

Thanks for the patronising comment, but we're not all idiots. Luckily you seemed to get my well hidden message in my previous comment.

Good job assuming that I'm calling you names. You didn't provide any support for your comment by agreeing that it's just a buzzword. When it clearly has practical use, especially for power users who can't keep up with hundreds of sources, or people who don't have enough time in the day to do so.

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Oct-03-2007 19:06:

You seemed to provide the support just fine all by yourself

God I hope no one can ever describe me as a "power user."

The language of the 80's is making a comeback folks. Look alive.

roffle.

Yeah, you're right, no one in the tech world -ever- uses that term. My bad.

If people don't make time for it, then it mustn't be all that important to them. Or am I in a minority with this line of thinking?
