Pioneer Mixer Problem

i've been using my pioneer djm-600 for a while now, never had any problems, except for a minor one (well, i used to think it wasn't that big of a problem, but now with a louder sound system, it's really getting annoying)...anyway, it has to do with the effects on/off button: each time i press it, i hear a slight pop sound come out of the speakers. I know this has to do with static or some electrical issue like that (also, my fog machine does the same problem each time I press the fog button)...i used to think this had to do with a problem in the way I was setting up things or maybe something wrong with my specific mixer, but my friend's pioneer DJM-3000 also has the same issue...anyway to get around this pop/click sound each time the effects button is activated?

thanks

I have a 3000 myself, i have that clicky thingy too, i can't make it disappear, but it clicks harder or "softer" depending on what effect is on when i press the efx button (if it's set to flange the click is so quiet i almost can't hear it, and if it's on echo it click's reeeal hard). Only thing i found that helps is to make sure the efx knob is set to absolute zero (duhh), if it's even slightly, how do i say this.. above zero the click is three times louder..

That's all i know, but if someone has a quick fix for this i sure as hell like to know too.

oh are u talking about like turn the FX depth knob all the way low, press ON and then take the FX depth higher? ya, i've noticed that works, but i think thats a pretty ghetto way of doing it...i'm sure there has to be a better, more professional method out there...ANYBODY at all?

upgrade to the 800.

Posted by SuPeRSaW2005 on Oct-04-2007 19:33:

really? the 800 does not have this issue?

Posted by JD8180 on Oct-04-2007 20:25:

i don't have an 800, but i think i've heard people mentioning that same issue if i'm not mistaken

Posted by DJ_Lord on Oct-04-2007 22:36:

i think since u have a bigger and better soundsystem the 800 is more suitable.

I have the 3000, does the exact same thing. I chalk it up to old age. It is annoying though.

Mine too. I have a 3000 as well. DJMs are a joke, I wouldn't own one if I didn't get it cheap and broke, and fixed it for pocket change.

Only thing I like about the DJM3000 is the fader arrangement - very easy to remove the level fader boards and solder in linear faders... the control of rotary, the quick-in&out of sliders.

solution? allen heath, rane, etc...

actually the xone:92's filters have a pop/click too when they're switched on!
i think it has something to do with changing the audio routing instantly when the audio is playing.

Posted by MERiDiAN5i2 on Oct-05-2007 07:35:

Niiiiice.. my xone32 is nice and quiet bringing the filters in and out.

have you brought this up with A&H? their support people are usually pretty responsive...

well, i asked about it here on TA on some topic and some people posted that it was normal behavior.
dunno if it is then. i could record a sample of how they sound.

hmm.. had a look over the xone92 forums @ xone.co.uk and indeed a few people are complaining about it. given how much the 92 costs i'd be annoyed.

yeah, i gotta say i am a bit annoyed about it. altho i don't even use the filters really (yet at least). the mixer having filters had no effect on my decision to buy it though, there were other much more important reasons.

Posted by MERiDiAN5i2 on Oct-05-2007 19:58:

Here is A&H's explanation (read: excuse) as to why the filters click

http://www.xone.co.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=143

Who cares how many "top DJs" endorse the mixer? That shouldn't even be brought up in a reply to a problem with the board... makes about as much sense as saying scientology is cool because tom cruise endorses it.

Maybe they could explain why my xone32 doesnt exhibit this click but the 92 does?

could it be that...

http://www.allen-heath.com/CA/manufacturing.asp

they moved production to cheap labor in china and don't build em like they used to? :P

okay...now can we shift focus back to the original thread topic: the pioneer mixers? its very important that a resolution for this issue can be found...anybody?

alright...so the final verdict seems to be that there is no way around it really (but the FX level on zero) method...thanks to all for responses

That's not a ghetto way of doing it at all - I don't think I ever turn the FX on with the depth turned up, you get so much more control and can make your FX so much more subtle if you ease them in with the depth control.

The reason for the click is that firstly turning on an effect introduces a slight delay to the sound, plus with the depth set to max it suddenly starts altering the sound, both of which can make the signal suddenly jump (imagine a smooth sound wave, then at a point you shift it slightly and get a step in the smooth wave) - that's what causes the click. It's nothing to do with static (unless your mixer's knackered in some other way)

It's simply down to how Pioneer implemented the FX, so I'm afraid there isn't another way around it. But use the depth - that knob's essential for making your FX sound bearable/good.

true...yeah i guess i considered it ghetto just cuzz i was used to it on the efx-500...when you enable the effect, doesnt click as bad...but alright, i guess the knob does give more control somehow especially for other fxs
