Question Newbie Producer Question :)

Okay some of you may think I'm thick asking thisbut I'm gonna anyway!

Okay I asked before what programs I could use for making trance on the PC and some peeps told me to get Fruityloop's and Reason. So I got Fruityloops which I like.

I like the set-up in Fruityloops and I think I will use that as my 'seqencer' - you know the place where everthing will 'come together'

But what I dont like is the basslines etc that Fruityloops already has!

So that said, what programs could I D/L to make my own basslines and melodies? - can this be done or do I have to nick samples and play about with them?

All you help would be appreicated

Technaut

Use some plugins or use fruity saw sounds... they produce awesome pluckd basses

basslines? what basslines? fruty has basslines?

umm if you need bassline you could download loops? invent some kinda random note generator? mabee even WRITE YOUR OWN!!!!

just messin with ya.. what are you talkin about? you mean you dont like frutys SYNTHS? for starters your just starting to get into producing so dont get picky about software. if you like fruty then learn every damm thing it can do before you use something elce... see what you can do with the stock synths (i personaly cant stand fruty but there are guys on here that do great shit with it)

so yeah... once you have sqweezed every last drop out of fruty and still think your sound can improve. then go and get some plugins (or even move up to something abit more pro)

How to use those saw-sounds in Fruity? I just get some crap out of those saw-sounds Any tips? Yeah, I am beginner and don't know much of making sounds... So any help is very welcome

By the way, I have tried to tweek those saw-sounds... I just don't know how it should be done...

hey beginner

I guess a nice way to turn a saw into a bassline is to use a sine that runs an octave lower as a sub-osc, and put the saw thru a LP filter, cutting it off in the lower regions, like 1k, with res value 0, then for some fatness you might want to use an extra saw a copy of the first one but slightly detuned and put the entire thing thru a pitch LFO with a very very subtle depth and a huger rate (so that it takes long cycles). Make sure the Amp attack is low, 0-2 msec to avoid choppy timing. no long releases to avoid cluttering up you kick.

:P :P
