TAPS Idol - Week 3 - Phat Bassline
Hey there everyone! Another challenge for the contestants!
week 3 - phat bassline - your turn to be vandalism/hook n' sling/sander van doorn for the week, we're looking for the dirtyest dancefloor killer. production should be judged on bassline programming, use of automation and compression/eq/driving techniques.
This challenge is a bit outside my usual style, so I'll have a lot of fun with it! I'll try to come up with something decent!
As always, entries in by 11:59pm Monday, LA time.
If people wish to vote on the week two entries, feel free to post in the week two thread!
This week sounds like a sweet comp!
I'd like to vote on this one...can anyone vote?
Yeah anyone can vote, check out the other week 2 thread!
this is gonna get SO dirty! muahahahha

Maybe the contenders could also give a slight explanation of their bass lines for the noobs.
yea... for the noobs.
coz im like all pro and stuff...
We are allowed to use synths and samples right? but only judged on the bass?

Yeah, I'll be using a bunch of different sounds, but obviously the bass elements will dominate...(well, they should...I'll see what happens!)
Hey everyone, here are this week's entries! Feel free to vote and hand out the 3 points, 2 points and 1 point!
Week Three Entries
Fabian you've got a great start to something here.
1. Fabian
2. Chris - this thing is filthy but obviously still needs some tweaks to get everything to shine thru correctly
3. System 101 - i also liked what you've started here, perhaps too much reverb on the bassline? or whatever is drowning it out, could be a lil bigger/brighter in parts -- other than that, keep working on that tune
the link just opens and is just a bunch of text. im on a mac if that means anything.
The link works fine for me. In internet explorer I just right-click and "Save Target As".
Is anyone else having problems downloading, has anyone come across this before and can help?
Thanks very much for the vote Anthony! It was a fun challenge... all that bass coming through the speakers...
I'll have a good listen to the other two tracks and put my votes in later today!
Link works fine for me!
Ran out of time with mine :-(
I had to start work on a new remix for my label so I figured I would kill two birds with one stone.
Works fine for me!
Unfortunatly it didnt work out like I planned. I Spent too much time getting some since percussions and synths, and too little time working on the bass. In the end it came off far to rushed, and badly compressed.
Oh well! Live and learn.
1. Fabian
Great track! I just don't think the bass is quite filthy or hard enough for my liking. Fair enough your more geared for trance, but if you pushed the envelope and added some balls to this bass you would have something completely original, and a massive edge to your trance compositions.
2. Chris
as above... dissapointing but all the potential for a decent track is there.
3. System 101
My comments to you are the same as to Fabian, good work but you can get that bass harder!
Trance Guys (or girls) don't be afraid to make the bass the feature instrument in your genre... nice super saws with dreamy arps are nice, but they are a dime a dozen. Give then something trancey and filthy and they will dance to it. Think murder was the bass heheh... and that's my thought for the day.
Okay, here are my votes. Good tracks this week indeed.
Chris, you grab my top vote again. That bassline does good things to my ears, it's just so infectious. I'd really like to learn how to make sounds like that, you're right, I think it would fit well in a trance style. I just love when that bassline comes in! Such an "oh yeah, sick!" moment!
System 101 - nice big bass sound, good solid groove. It sounds really good. Unfortunately you come up against Chris' bassline...
And I'll vote for myself third to give me a point. It was an interesting challenge, I learned a lot. But yeah, I wouldn't mind getting into some of that D4Dirty style bass....
Cool week! Can't wait to hear what we all do with the vocals next week!

Hey Guys,
Unfortunately I am going to have to pull out of this weeks competition. The deadline has come and I have not even had enough time to scratch myself this week, let alone put something together with those vocals.
I will however be more then happy to judge them and take part in the next TAPS Idol.
