All my news come from Colbert and Stewart. No wonder I'm so ill-educated and totally unaware of what's going on in the world.
Propaganda? In US? Rly? You mean to tell me that our Zionist masters, fueled by fresh taste of christian babies in their mouth, would spin or distort the truth? I knew those heebs in NY Times were up to something... Damn you Jews! Damn you for controlling the media! Damn you all for all the world wars!

Adam Curtis definitely has my respect for shedding light on the propagandization of America by Edward Bernays in his Century of the Self series. ([[ LINK REMOVED ]]
)
It goes into mild detail about how Bernays used propaganda in order to condition the American public into thinking that we were overthrowing the (democratically elected) government of Guatemala for the benefit of it's people (and not for that of the United Fruit Co.)
Here's a good excerpt:
Perhaps nobody really even cares about the fact that they've been lied to for most of their lives
I rarely watch more than an hour of tv a day anymore..

Here's an interesting paper that I found:
Propaganda and Disinformation: How the CIA Manufactures History
It begins with a good quote from Malcom Muggeridge:
quote:
In the eyes of posterity it will inevitably seem that, in safeguarding our freedom, we destroyed it. The vast clandestine apparatus we built up to prove our enemies' resources and intentions only served in the end to confuse our own purposes; that practice of deceiving others for the good of the state led infallibly to our deceiving ourselves; and that vast army of clandestine personnel built up to execute these purposes were soon caught up in the web of their own sick fantasies, with disastrous consequences for them and us.

it all fits together
quote:
"There is, of course, no reason why the new totalitarians should resemble the old. Governments by clubs and firing squads, by artificial famine, mass imprisonment and mass deportation, is not merely inhuman (nobody cares much about that nowadays); it is demonstrably inefficient and in an age of advanced technology, inefficiency is the sin against the Holy Ghost. A really efficient totalitarian state would be one in which the all powerful executive of political bosses and their army of managers control a population of slaves that do not have to be coerced, because they love their servitude. To make them love it is the task assigned, in present-day totalitarian states, to ministries of propaganda, newspaper editors, and school teachers" - Aldous Huxley
This documentary by GlobalVision Productions details the bias, propaganda, and failure of the mainstream American media to provide objective, independent news coverage in the lead up to the 2003 Iraq invasion and subsequent aftermath. It also details the Bush Administration's management of "public relations" to ensure a climate of blind patriotism which clouded journalism to the point in which skeptical and critical viewpoints were ignored for the right-wing agenda of pre-emptive war as a valid foreign policy instrument.
