Why hasn't Michael Devlin been sent to Guantanamo Bay?

sorry, but how is this in any way political or of note to the PDD?

Not political though I did add the Guantanamo part

I don't think we need the death penalty. I'm quite sure his fellow inmates will deal with him justly. People who fuck with kids don't last very long in prison.

How is the death penalty really even punishment again?

Tax payers put up a bunch of money (far more than it would cost to imprison him in federal pound me in the ass prison) so this guy can get the easy way out? No thanks.

unfortunately, the alternative (keeping them in jail) costs more money, and is starting to the reach the point of "cruel and unusual punishment".

i mean, shit, you take away a prisnor's cable TV and all of a sudden you're robbing them of their rights and shit and people get in an uproar.

when really, common sense should tell you, "they're in fucking jail, dumbass".

i remember hearing about a guy who was executed via lethal injection; and apparently it took longer than normal, or they had to inject more than one time, or something like that....anyway, the guy's family tried to claim it was "cruel and unusual punishment" because his execution didn't go right. fucking stupid.

He's only guilty of loving too much.

Actually, I am pretty sure that life imprisonment is cheaper than the death penalty as it is currently implemented.

also, i think its better to keep them in prison on the off-chance that they might be innocent (not in a clear-cut case as this, but hey). nothing cruel and unusual about life if what you did was horrible enough to forfeit your right to live in civilized society (like what this guy did).

That isn't right at all, and what you described afterwards doesn't sound "cruel or unusual" at all.

i know it doesn't sound cruel and unusual to you and I, but that's because we have a thing called common sense, which a lot of people don't have.

me personally, nothing. but according to the law, it's "wrong".

also for some reason, i was under the impression that paying for one prisnor's life sentence was more costly than executing them.

apparently, that's not the case. my mistake.

No, it's wrong because knee-jerk, shallow, wannabe civil-liberties attorney's can use half-truths and loopholes to argue that these practices are "cruel."

Edit: And Will, it costs far more to execute someone almost solely because of the legal costs of the appeals process.

That would easily be defined as "cruel and unusual" seeing as how the Supreme Court is currently re-evaluating the process behind lethal injection simply because the person who administers the injection is typically not a "trained doctor" and people somehow find that "cruel and unusual."

To be fair, there is some solid evidence that lethal injection is a pretty cruel way to kill inmates regardless of who is administering the injection.

don't understand why cruelty should come into play for murderers and rapists. but whatever.
