audio interface

Hello

I'm going to buy a new audio interface. At the moment I have m-audio firewire 410 and i'm quite satisfied with it. The only thing i dont like about it is that cheap-plastic look.

I need a quality audio interface, I dont need many outputs or inputs (2 or 4 are fine).. Looking for good dynamic range.. What else should I be careful with since I'm going to buy also new monitors (probably dynaudio bm5a) as I expect to have much better sound quality?

I was looking at rme fireface 400 and multiface (something like that) but I dont like the way rme interfaces look..

Next option was tc electronic - konnekt 8.. Does anyone have any experience with it? It doesnt seem as qualitified as rme interfaces.

Please advice me some good choices and let me know what other details should I look for?

Would be really nice to hear your experience with audio interfaces..

Thanks for help!

The RME FF400 doesn't look like the publicity photos in real life. Its not purple. Mine is blue. Also, those shitty looking plastic 'ears' can be removed and it looks much cooler when you take them off.

I'm going to buy a TC Studio Konnekt 48 in the next couple of weeks so I'll drop in a user review when it becomes available over here.

...because if my audio interface doesn't look neat, I'm not inspired.

I know nothing of their quality or driver stability, but they look just fine to me.

The 4 Mic pre amps being crucial. Too bad its just a tad out of my price range... $2,299 AUD

Didnt know that 'ears' can be removed. They look damn ugly..

Konnekt 48 looks wicked.. Would def go for it if I had more money..

Do you think rme is the best option in that price range and wont let me dissapointed?

The TCs had hardcore driver problems on initial release. Better check if thats all been sorted out, if you're still considering them.

TC Konnekt is still plagued with driver issues, i would stay away if i were you.

Been using a RME Fireface 400 for a while now, personally i think it 'looks' & SOUNDS great. Never had any driver issues, RME always update the firmware & drivers regularly. It's highly recommended.

Be patient and check Audiomidi.com im not sure if they ship to you but they often have 10% metric halo products. Also they turn up on ebay from time to time and go for relatively cheap. Not to mention some of the best ad/da conversation good preamps and the best drivers for mac.... IMO the metric halo sounds the same if not better than the apoggee ensemble which I demoed in my studio along with the metric halo. I use genelec 8040's and have some sound reiforcement though not the best... But i was able to hear a difference.. Better or worse is really subjective at that point..

I have to make decision betwen RME Fireface 400 and Metric Halo Mobile I/O ULN-2..

Which one should I go for and why? Please note that I'm on windows.. Maybe any other recommendation in that price range?
