Hey Jah take heart. I gave up a large part of my life to get these babies. I have never had the intention of being the next PvD; in fact I've never even played in front of any crowd, large or small, before. But the love of the music keeps me going. I consider all this money well spent because I am experiencing something that non-trance believers can never get to experience- the thrill of playing the best kind of music in the world.

Hey, just think of it as an expensive hobby! Some people like to go snowboarding or something, that costs a shitload of money. We like to DJ, which also costs a shitload of money. That's the way it is!

i agree~! ... every hobby is going to be expensive.... collecting comics, cards, coins, cars, snowboarding, skiing. all that shit takes time and money.... and so does DJ'n.

Posted by JohnSmith on Apr-25-2002 16:54:

yep. i bought a $600 snowboard, $200 boots, jackets, gloves, pants, blah blah..

i did it cuz i love to snowboard. but this year, i hardly went at all, because i want to buy decks.

i will have them soon.

do what you like to do. what is money for besides spending?

As cost o living goes, vynil is so much cheaper here in the UK than back in South Africa.

A track in SA is currently going for R120 (about 9.40), but doing a cost of living conversion:

1 Mcmeal in SA = R20, therefore 1 vynil = 6 Mcmeals
1 Mcmeal in UK = 4, therefore 1 vynil = 1.8 Mcmeals

Imagine that UK vynils cost 25 each, thats how is goes in SA!

Yeah man, I get bummed when I look at my crate and see all the long-gone dollar signs, but if spinning makes you happy you are really making out ahead of the game. $20 for a 30 rack of beer every weekend is gonna make you fat and kill brain cells. $50 for an eighth of bud is gonna make you dumb. As people said, skiing & snowboarding is almost a grand to get into just to buy equipment. A round of golf costs you $30 a pop plus lost golf balls and the initial several hundred dollars to get your equipment... and then clothing too. Everything costs money, just be thankful what you're spending it on makes you happy.

It is the way it has to be.

I haven't gone as far as you have buying over 2k worth of vinyl but I really don't think like this is all for a waste. This is more like a physiological necessity. You need it to feel like you arent just breathing and waiting to die. If you dont spin some everyday you will get more and more disturbed and upset till the point when you will kill the mailman for asking for your signature. Like, as soon as I get my decks I know I would have assigned a lot of money on them and because of them I dont get to spend on other important stuff (thank god I dont have a girlfriend), but other than my day job this really is a necessity just like eating, exercising, sleeping
