Drunk I don't know what kind of music I made

I made a track using FL Studio 7 and I can't decide which kind of Electronic music it is. I say Progressive House, but it could also be Trance...help?

Posted by Rinster on Oct-12-2007 13:48:

what can i say?..

it sounded much better then my first tune.

Posted by mark_gg_daniels on Oct-12-2007 16:29:

hey - not sure if its my pc, but my media player working fine.

i cant here this track man!!!

maybe worth checking

Posted by mark_gg_daniels on Oct-12-2007 16:36:

hey man - just found youre tune on you tube and listening to it.

quite like it, different to normal trance/prgressive so its hard to say what genre it fits into.

i say this cause the instruments used are 'real life' and sound like a real drun kit.

you should think about using the effects, such as delay reverbs and definately relevant to trance is the 'cut off filters' and also oyu can automate them, so you get that rising and dropping effect that a lot of dance has

I was using fruityloops for years and realuised its very restricitng in terms of structures, i would suggest that you start using different programs before you get too used to it such as cubase, reason, logic (macintosh) etc... also there are some amazing VSTs out there such as Vanguard, Absynth

get in touch if you want to know how to get hold of this software - i havent payed a penny for everythin i have and I got hundreds of samples, VSTs and a bunch of programs (not completely legit i must be honest and say)

[email protected] - i dont bite

Posted by FromAbove on Oct-12-2007 18:25:

Thanks a lot, you guys. Mark, I'll definitely be contacting you for advice on future projects.

You really shouldnt be posting stuff like this mate

Posted by rqpeyruxvg on Oct-13-2007 12:16:

Yeah agreed with the above...

Posted by mark_gg_daniels on Oct-14-2007 01:05:

everyone relax. so what ive downloaded dodgy software, im currently saving to get a mac and will buy logic, but as you all know its very expensive and for someone on close to minimum wage (myself) this si quite an investment.

i have no problem with sharing with others how to get software for free. Im sure hes an adult and can decide for himself.

so keep youre hair on

Posted by G-Con on Oct-14-2007 10:58:

Yes I'm sure he is an adult as well and can decide for himself but you shouldn't

1) advertise the fact that you use illegal software, even giving your email address as well

2) openly promote using it to other people. As adults if they really want to get it and aren't thick as shit then they will know how to obtain it if they choose. But you promoting it to others is just plain stupid.

why dont you just stop being a ridiculously stupid fag?

Posted by mark_gg_daniels on Oct-14-2007 22:49:

or alternatively theres a program called 'ares' but im not familiar with this one, apparently quite good.

bit comet also applies to music, video games, dvds, etc.... my music colection is awesome - all free.

limewire is good for singles - all these programs easily obtainable online. I suggest using filehippo.com where you can get all these programs, this site also gd for all programs such as real player, windows media etc etc.... this one is legal by the way.

so apparently my behaviour is similar to that of a 'fag'. I gather that this is an offensive term used against gay people, but also used in a derogatory sense to suggest that my behaviour is 'undesirable' or 'negative' or 'socially unaceeptable'. This is clearly a well thought out method of abusing me, which unfortunately does not offend me in any way since I am very secure with my heterosexual status, and am very comfortable with gay people being full members of our great societies.

so all in all:

youre a fuking prick.

and another thing rinster - sort youre levels out in youre tune. Not bad track, but needs some work - stop using FL for a start, and download some decent software

Posted by 3F05Q on Oct-14-2007 23:23:

You, sir asshole, are a gentleman douchebag and a scholar idiot.

By posting on these forums you agree to abide by the forum rules. One of them is NOT posting resources for obtaining illegal copies of software. It's quite obvious why, really. You're compromising the forum by doing so. If you're here to give and recieve feedback then I'm sure you would like to see the forum continue.

Also, until you make that number one hit, don't go telling rinster to get 'decent software.'

Posted by mark_gg_daniels on Oct-15-2007 01:33:

that told me

Exactly what difference will switching programs and getting new software do?

Posted by mark_gg_daniels on Oct-15-2007 02:12:

Rasta

fruityloops is crap, its simple - i was using it for years, and just last 2 months been using cubase and reason, the quality of my music is ten times better now.

kind of an odd question you ask (no offence) cause making electronic music is about what software you use - and i can honestly say in my humble opinion that tiesto doesnt use fruityloops - and never will.....

stay away man - stay away

Ya and Tiesto doesn't really do much. He has his own personal engineer for most if not all his projects.

Also, FL Studio has the capability to create the same sound as any other platform you may choose.

If were talking about it's audio engine, sure there might be better alternatives out there and FL may lack in that area but it has a very user friendly interface for beginners thats why many people choose it. I've produced my first 4 years worth of productions with FL and I have no regrets. It was one of the best programs I've used. I use Ableton now.

Funny you say electronic music is about what software you use, because that is in no way correct and factual. Sounds like you're an expert on where to download all your programs but not on how to use them.

Not to be arrogant or a prick or anything but you just seem to be speaking out of your ass, I highly doubt you used FL Studio for "years". If it was crap you wouldn't really use it for "years".

Music itself isn't about software. I've heard folks make better tunes with just a sampler than most people can make in a professional DAW with top plug-ins.

alrite everyone chill

us budding producers need to stick together......

were going to have to agree to disagree on whether using downloaded software is right or wrong. I know its 'illegal' but the law is not a very high concern in my life, I regard myself as a moral person and the law has no place in my philosophy.... anyway

I have been using Fl for years. 3 years id say so now, and literally last 2 months started using cubase.... im an individual and i can definately say that the quality of my tunes has increased - maybe me and fl just arnt compatible, who knows what it is.

maybe it depends on the style of music you create. I found that creating garage rap was a breeze on FL, as you can easily paste inb the beats. But with deep dancew music where effects are a huge factor, the way you automate on fl i find to be very frustrating and so much easier on cubase.

now lets all be friends.

and i dont think its fair to say i dont know how to use the software, as you have not heard any music i have created.

Ive just downloaded youre mix, and will look forward to hearing it tomorrow - ill give feedback when i ahev done.

Posted by mark_gg_daniels on Oct-15-2007 02:58:

and thank you for the dictionary definition of the word pretentious (still cant spell it though) - is that irony?

Posted by jupiterone on Oct-15-2007 03:01:

Alright, I feel pretty bad that this thread was hi-jacked from it's original purpouse so...

Keep at it FromAbove, your sound is promising and I'm sure in the the next months you'll get a hang of FL. One thing I'd highly recommend is to experiment, even if it's not your style of music, sometimes you'll be amazed as to how good some things may sound by just having an experimenting jam session with whichever program you use.

Goodluck.

Yeah fruity loops is fucking terrible, and since I use it all my stuff must be fucking awful. Thanks for letting me know!

Also, abide by the rules of the forum, or get the fuck out. It's your business where you obtain your software/vst's from, it's not your business to discuss it here.

Posted by mark_gg_daniels on Oct-15-2007 04:18:

sheesh - all ill im trying to do is spread the word of how us poor people can still make great music - ill shut my mouth in future, the less i say - the less competition therell be i suppose.

if you want a selfish ass, i can be one. Screw all of you, hope you have to sell youre house just cause youre music hobby hgot out of hand.

and to the bloke who made the song - keep it up pal, but id seriously suggest BUYING cubase 4 for 379 or pro logic for a bargain of 573. onm top of that youll need VSTs as well, for trance VANGUARD is great, aswell as NEXUS ($89.99 and $299.99)... there are some free LEGAL vsts out there such as 'crystal' - and if you buy a soundcard, such as a EMU 0404 - it comes with Cakewalk lite, and Cubase SL (or something) - it hardly does anything, but youll have the basics. Oh yeah, and Fruityloops 7 with all upgrades and cool VSTs, and extras is $2043.....

happy buying

but seriously, good start - and enjoy the learning curve, making music is great fun - and remember, my email address is above for any 'guidance' on acquiring software - (that will please the lawyers i think)

quick note - i really hope you bought youre copy of fruityloops, or everyone on this site will THINK YOURE EVIL THIEVING SCUM (except me pal, cause i live in the real world)
