Review: Lexicon Avenue @ Mod Club

What a night! The music was completely different to what I am used to, and the vibe was out of this world.

I dragged my friend Annie out at about midnight, had some drinks and cigarettes, and danced for a good part of the night. I am actually very impressed with Simon Jain, since I wasn't his big fan before, but I have to say - last night he played an awesome opening set.

Not even sure how to describe Lexicon's style, but I think they played pretty much everything - from dark electro to progressive house with lots of trancy vibes. It really started picking up after 2, and that was my favourite part of the set. I stayed till about 4 am, but it seemed like the party was still going strong.

Great seeing and meeting lots of TAs - Stephan, Sketchbag, Infinity High, Tordan, Big Boss, Rabitjoker, Invisionmix, Shanny, Cribby, English Rachel, Button Whore, Superjimbo, Tristan, StereoPrincess, El K Dee (you kill me), and many many others, forgive me for not remembering your names. I am glad people were able to recognise me from the picture and introduced themselves.

I was going to go to Circa tonight, but now I am thinking I might just stay home, since I am so hunggggggggoverrr....and sore from all that dancing in high heels!

Overall, really happy with the way the night turned out

Simon did play a great opener - really brought it down to a groove that was well suited for Lexicon to follow. Lexicon Avenue played (expectedly), a great set as well. Aside from the crap the cd-j took very early in the night - their set went off without a hitch. Place was full of energy all night, and a lot of old Sonic faces (as well as a strong showing from the TA massive!)

Great night out!

I've got some videos posted on Facebook.... I'll pop the links in here shortly.

Ya, that CD-j was skipping like crazy, but he played a crazy track right after that and really got me into dancing again...

Yea Simon played really well. Maybe a little too hard for my "warmup standards" but what the hell. We didn't have all night. I loved hearing that new Prydz track though...

Lexicon Ave. played really well in the beginning but I think they started losing me towards the end a little.

Got there around 11:45 with the kitchener crew and took a mini tour of the Mod club after hitting the bar for a few quick shots to get things going. It really impressed me - the dancefloor, the sound system (a tad too loud at times but meh), the lazers were exceptionally well for the night as well.

Said hi to a few people and started grooving to the music in the back for a bit. Simoin Jain has impressed me pretty much every time I've seen him play - from electro to tribal he delivered! Great opening set and Lexicon Ave took over with their seducing set.

Aside from the technical breakdown they played a really well set despite losing me a few times by being a bit 'too proggy'. They definately fucking ROCKED the club the last 2 hours though holy shit - I don't know if another member from Lexicon started spinning at that time or what but the vibe just fucking shot through the roof! Towards the end he played the grimiest electro track I've heard on a system in a very long time - very very very CZish!

Overall I had a great time, Mod club and sets were bomb!

Wasn't there but usually Scott Bradford can rock it a little bit better than Mark Armstrong. Based on their promo's I've also found Scott's stuff to be much more club friendly.

For me it seemed on this night at least, both were pretty equal as far as how the threw it down..... Scott playing a little bit more bangin/electro sound - with Mark laying down some darker techier stuff.

It worked well switching it up every 5 or 6 tracks throughout the night...

Um....ya ;-) I enjoyed my patio smokes with El K Dee's entertainment.
Liam, you need to come out more often to Mod now, so you can get drunk every time and walk home hehe
Hope you are feeling better!

Simon and LexiconSimon laid

Simon threw down his best set in quite a long time, IMO. Congrats dude, that was quite a showing...back to prog and tech house, just like I likey.

Lexicon was great, although I must admit, there were a few times where they lost me...just a bit though...can't really complain, I am just comparing last night to there performance at Sonic, which was more tribally (which I generally am bored of) but the set hung together a little more cohesively than the one last night...overall, 8/10 IMO.

Great night of good fun...Lee Burridge tonight at Footwork should also be quite a treat!

+1. Good stuff dude.

I agree that Simon played a great opener. Definately not the Simon I'm used to which was nice.

Lexicon Avenue were decent... didn't really wow me at all. I know it's not Sonic but I was expecting a bit more. The last 40 minutes were pretty great though.

Does anyone know who has the second photographer besides John Mitchell? He took lots of really good shots, but where do I find the photos? Jeff, you know by any chance, or someone else?

Not yet, he usually has them up by midweek.

Andy from Nocturnal adds them to the Exposed Facebook Group when they are ready - you should check there if you want them.
