Review: Electronica Returns @ York University 10-12-2007

i gotta say i had a blast!

it's really great to see a music society which promotes EDM and has such a following. i wish you guys nothing but great success in the future.

it was nice meeting Nik and seeing some other TA's (MaxTO, Endgame, SgtFoo, Dave and Mike) come out to this.

The first guy spun some nice dnb and breaks which were really good to warm up. he had some nice tunes playing and it almost felt like a destiny party. the 2nd guy was so-so. pretty bad transitions and no flow. mikey picked it up with some uplifting trance sounds which the crowd loved. and then endgame came on and RIPPED the place apart. he played sick remixes of some great classics which was amazing to hear. as always his energy was through the roof. thankfully the stage was big enough and handled his crazyness well. i hope the people in albert know that a hurricane is coming their way. (btw, Hurricane Andrew was the second most destructive one in US history. Coincidence?

and just for kicks, a little alt...

Endgame 4 life, yo

I stopped by for like 20 min, personaly I had a nice time. The music was alright. I got to hear the ending of the dj who was spinning trance (name?). And the first track or two of end game, which was ok, electro house i think. My friends were having a bad time so we left quickly. I am realy happy to see that york u has a following for electronica and that people seem to know to how to jam nicely to the music.

I might check it out again some times, but this time with the right people.

edm western (possible name change) is in the works again. after last years failed attempt (the club was too high risk as it involved alcohol.... and nightclubs....),but we will try again with a different agenda.

Drew will introduce a whole new genre of music in northern Alberta.

Nice! Let me know the next time this happens, always wanted to hit one up.

Apparently the next one is November 9th.

I'll create a thread in the event section when I get more details about it.

haha i love these kind of events... the juxtaposition of random students who think they are too cool to go nuts to EDM, others who think they're having a blast "raving" for once, and the small demographic that at least knows things like the difference between trance and house... always a good time tho :P

can't wait for trance@mac 3 this friday (/plug)

because we've collaberated before. me and nik had talked about how he got theirs going and offered some advice (but western is stupid). also thought about doing stuff together with trance at mac as well. a little trifecta. we would go to their events, they would come to ours...

for some reason I had midterms the next day, or assignments due
now it's work
so Fridays works better all around now that it got bigger exposure, Fridays are even better, since it will an nicer alternative then usual places

It was secretly planned to screw you over all along!
Friday-only events means I won't make it there at all if it's like that next semester. Oh well

Posted by FunkyCrew on Oct-14-2007 22:42:

btw how come there was no roll call? just a FB event...

Posted by exstasie on Oct-15-2007 00:13:

I think Friday's are worse than Wednesday.

Only reason is because there's so much other stuff to do on a Friday.

Atleast on Wednesday ppl would stop by after class and stuff like that or would be on campus studying or hanging out etc.

On Fridays, not to many ppl are around (unless they are there specifically for the Underground) or have other plans.

I couldn't make it cause I already had plans for Trentemoller...

I would go to the next one except for I am out of town. If I was in town though, odds are I'd probably be at Steve Angello instead.

This was one of the most horrible events Ive ever been to. The sound was only "ok" right beside the subwoofer and in other parts of the room it was shit.
Came at 12 and the dj was horrendous. His was an omfg noob. Played pussy pussy trance, and was making me feel like going home every 3 minutes. The funniest moment was when he was dropping some new pvd vocal track which is like so gay omg, like ubercheese and was rocking to that and making it seem like it was so sick lol. I was like yo man youre pathetic. And then the crowd sucked balls too. it was meganoob-kids and "noob-nerds".(Noob nerds were standing on the sides like theyre too cool to dance and look so omfg serious, like they were analyzing the beats and the mixing and shit. It was very funny when the guy played that cheese pvd track and they were nodding their heads like "yea this is proper shit"). Endgame was better and his beats were decent, were some decent songs, others didnt fit the set, overall was too mainstream, nothing uber.

Overall this party was a joke.
NEXT electronica: No thanks
