Cocaine is a Fun Thing To Do
Film i made
shoot this with a shitty consumer cam...
getting a pro one soon (canon xl1)
some feedback would be awesome

A little cliched in its execution, but some interesting shots, especially the last, obviously.

The lines that he (poorly) cut were too big, and he snorted too frequently. If he had done that much in the span of a few minutes, I don't think he would have been able to stand. Instead of holding the mirror (p.s. he should have snorted on the front of the mirror instead of the back) with his free hand, he should have been using it to press against the nostril that he wasn't snorting with.
Hahah I have never tried coke, but based on what I used to see on a daily basis, I can kinda find the errors.
loved it...........loved the "setting up" with his hands.
that was one chunky rail!
must've hurt lol
How come u decided to make this movie?
I think the guy looks better with black hair anyway! lol
Why use the back of the mirror???

ahh this brings back memories .. lol lol.. i liked it.. those are brutal lines my head started to hurt as soon i saw them lol
I stopped watching as soon as I saw the first line cut (if you can call that shit a line). It was clear at that point that no one involved in this production knew a damn thing about cocaine.
I gotta say, the scenes involving the actual coke were just not genuine - need to clean those up, to get the viewer into it.
That said, good for you for actually shooting something. I know SO many "amateur" directors who have yet to direct anything; they just feel like one day they will be behind the real deal. /sigh
Wow. I pretty much agree with everything that's been said so far. Tip for making a movie about something: If you obviously have no first-hand experience, at least do a little research about it before shooting.
Funny how all of the comments in the thread are directed at the authenticity of the actual mechanicics of cutting a line and snorting. Understandable, but funny none the less.
yeah i would have to agree... good shots and all but it seemed like a BIT more firsthand knowledge was needed... anyone who can handle a line that large would know how to chop it properly and probably wouldn't use their fingers to take it out of the bag, as it sticks like a mother****** and people get too much into a greedy/selfish mindset when doing cocaine to "waste" that much. And yeah some people like to do it off the mirror surface and watch their pupils' instant reaction. Maybe i'm being too picky, but you asked for feedback
just some things that i would have kept in mind.
good shooting and all though, keep up the good work
sorry im not a coke expert like most people on this site...i just made the movie 2 practice with different camera angles, lighting and also to try out the new editing program i got....im shooting a new movie soon called 8-Track Porno...its a film noir and it will have a story 2 it unlike this one...
btw if anyone is interested here is a music video i shot for the label Toes in the Sand records..the folks up there really liked it
working in the night club industry, I've been around a lot of people doing coke. Over the last 7 years, I can honestly say I've never seen a single one of them start drawing on their face or submerge themselves in water.

Step 1: Cut gigantic rail
Step 2: Gun it
Step 3: Speed-dial #3 for poison control/ambulance.
Hypothetically....I agree they are way, WAY too big, not chopped cleanly, would stick to your fingers and the back of the mirror (thus the reason people use the front, glass is smooth)and the general mechanics of it seem forced. What did you use to subsitute for the qualu? My advice is to get some technical advice from a sketchbag (but where oh where to find one?!?)...
Also, the reaction (ie: drawing on himself, submersion) is completely out of touch...while I (hypothetically) found myself in the position of wanting a shower and/or to dunk my head in the fish tank from time to time, I think it was more to get clean/revel in the comedic reactions of my fishies than anything else. Perhaps add a scene where he goes to play frisbee or hits up the PS2 into the wee hours of a worknight and then falls asleep at work...ahem...? Fiddling with stuff would do well, too.
The angles and shots are well enough laid out, but you will need to invest not only in a good DV camera (Canons are nice, Sony PD-170 is a good choice as well) but some basic lighting and a meter. Set up your camera, dial in the lighting and gel as required to create the desired effect and then play with the white balance/temperature/focal length/etc...you'll know when it's right.
At the end of the day, I was entertained for a few minutes, thanks!
