lol! Canada has a Sex Party

Thanks to Colbert Report, I came across this piece of gem

http://www.thesexparty.ca/

Part of their platform
quote:
Sex-Positive Holidays
The provincial Victoria Day holiday in May commemorates a monarch legendary for her negative attitudes towards female sexuality. The Sex Party would change Victoria Day to Eros Day to celebrate and encourage sex-positive expression.
There is no provincial holiday in February. The Sex Party would proclaim Valentines Day as an official holiday

quote:
Anal Sex
Federal criminal law prohibits anal sex between individuals younger than 18 or in sexual activity involving more than two people. Such prohibitions are unreasonable. The Sex Party would repeal them.

Child Pornography
The Sex Party supports all reasonable measures aimed at preventing the abuse of children involved in the production of sexually explicit media. Federal legislation prohibits the possession or production of photographs and films that depict real children involved in sexual activity. The Sex Party supports that law. But federal law also prohibits the possession of written material containing descriptions of sexual activity involving children. Such material could include novels, personal journals, or fantasies. No evidence suggests that the prohibition of such writing prevents harm to children. The Sex Party would delete that prohibition.

Now, if the Sex Party only linked up with the Marijuana Party -- and then joined forces with Brian "Godzilla" Salmi's resuscitated Gnu Democratic Party -- they could call the union the Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll Party.

i'm not cool with the whole sex with children in written form deletion they propose... i'm sorry, but as open as my mind can be, being a parent, and knowing what some sick people enjoy out there at the expense, abuse and ruin of children, writing about it is just the first step--there shouldn't even BE a first step. Protect our kids.

I would like to know at what point in someone writing a story about sex with minors are actual real children involved. There's a reason why child pornography is illegal, while hentai anime that's depicting children is not - one uses real kids, the other one doesn't. I'm not defending child porn, but written works should not be censored in this way. The reasoning you use that writing about those things promotes it is as faulty as saying books about suicide promote suicide and hence should all be banned. And while you're at it, you can ban literature about drugs, rape, murder, political corruption, and all other kinds of crime.

That's a very good point. We don't want to get on the slippery slope of censoring to protect ourselves at the cost of introducing facist mechanisms into our society. I'll think about this one--thanks for the juxtaposition.

lol Cosmic Fur = Hentai Anime Child Porn lover

I think it would be hard to convict hentai artists of child pornography... "your hand-drawn fictitious character doesn't look like she's 18 yet"...

Can one of you canucks please speak to GW and try to convince him that our country is soo far behind in promoting positive sexuality..............fak.

EHHEHE, I knew someone would say that. I don't actually understand the point of anime porn when there's so much real porn readily available. Plus the whole tentacle and preschool kids having sex is just a little too weird for my tastes. But hey, some people get off on that, so who am I to judge. Plus, I figure it's better they get off to an anime cartoon than go to an elementary school and get off there.

Posted by VolumE_TO on Oct-18-2007 16:05:

yeah, and hope the former doesn't lead to the latter

yea. that is the case.

we handled and discussed this issue for almost a whole class in my law course i took at uw when it came up. the entire hour went to arguing this... it was so heated, as you can imagine.

but what it came down to was:

child porn laws are to PROTECT the child (who is being abused in this way).

in writing about it fictionally, or in hentai, or in other lifelike computer generated movies, THERE IS NO CHILD TO PROTECT.

The law is in place not bc of the fact that society regards it as disgusting, its in place TO PROTECET THE CHILD.

Ppl alwasy seem to miss that point.

All and most are intitled to think its disgusting, but just bc everyone feels that doesnt mean it should be illegal. It needs to be illegal to protect the children from this harm!

Posted by Yohan on Oct-18-2007 16:26:

All this talk asks the question of morality, does it not?

We have all this graphic movies and novels and other media that depict or written about the most grossest, fucked up things. Yet they are not illegal, as long as anyone does not do the fucked up shit that is in those media.

Yes, stories about child molesting is disgusting, and whoever gets off on that needs to be removed to prevent polluting the gene pool.

This is the same reason why I'm against hate speech law is that if you're stupid enough to believe all the bigoted, ignorant nonsense that hate speech speaks of, then well, you're a moron.

If people take the time to read up on all the stupid stuff hate groups spew out, it's easy to see that they are right out to lunch. Like Mein Kampf, Hitler's book. It's just total rubbish.

Educating people about the wrongness of child molestation and hate speech is the key. Not limited the access to written media. (child porn is a no no because actual child is being harmed)

Posted by Ni-Cd on Oct-18-2007 16:41:

Jem - makes a lot of sense.

EvilTree - agreed. Education is key. In hindsight, if we hide or censor things, then the more apt fringe individuals will be to pursue those things. Reviewing, knowing, learning and growing is key, in any area of life, let alone the baser things.
