Mandate - Bal En Blanc House Room

Dear Friends of Bal en Blanc,

After reading many of your posts, I noticed that there seems to be a great need for some important clarifications with regards to the House Room at Bal en Blanc.

Please kindly note that the House room at Bal en Blanc is exactly that, a room where the musical style offered is and will always be HOUSE Music, and this is in order to fully reflect the musical expectations and tastes of the majority of the 15,000 people who attend the Bal en Blanc each year.

The House Room at Bal en Blanc must respect a fully established corporate image and specific musical tendencies, which is House music, and some of its purest variations such as Deep House, French Touch, and to the extreme Progressive or Tribal. (If the decision was only mine, I would go much deeper by inviting either Frankie Knuckles, Master at Work, Marshall Jefferson or even by dabbing in the Soulful House sound with names such as Kevin Yost, King Britt, Franois Kevorkian or Mark Farina; but because of specific established marketing strategies, the actual need is to feature main stream talents).

The event is intended to be fluffy and festive, which naturally implies that the music should cater to masses. Resolution and Sensation, on the other hand, are more specialized and mostly favor tech house, progressive and tribal, with a touch of New Sound.

The recipe that we adopted for Bal en Blanc corresponds to an obvious demand. Although Bal en Blanc highly respects the opinions of those who would rather enjoy different musical styles, we must stick to the corporate image set for the House Room, which satisfies a maximum of participants.

We are proud to announce that the House Room will have much of a French feel this year, with the participation of a popular DJ that has performed at Bal en Blanc only once in the past, and whose sound caters to a mixed crowd (straight and gay, but with an important gay following).

We understand that everyone is anxious to know all about the the final line-up in the House Room at Bal en Blanc 14, but for obvious strategic marketing reasons, it will be only announced sometime around mid- December.

This said, I thank you in advance for your support and for your comments, and we are already looking very much forward to greet you all on Sunday March 23rd 2008.

Michael Armstrong,
Bookings and Artists Relations, Bal en Blanc

-----------------

Cordialement,
Michael Armstrong,

so people should shut up because theyd rather stick to their formula? they are telling peope what they already know....

I don't really even see the point of this post apart from to build more online hype for their event.

As with any corporation, their business is marketing- this is that and nothing else.

Bob singlar KILLED IT in 2000

Too bad he doesn't even come close to play what he was playing at that time.

Maybe, if it's him, they'll get him to do an africanism set ??

greg...with total respect, who are you to tell them what to do business wise after their 14 years old success ?!?!? I know that it's not the same team, but still it makes it even harder for the new one. If their business is only marketing, props to the marketing manager for bringing 15 000 people and making it the biggest party of the year every time.

Good post, Michael. I'm happy you finally addressed our issues. Although we'd all like to see more underground artists at BEB14 we understand what your establisment is looking for and respect that.

My money's on Guetta.

im not telling them how to do anything- they are free to run their business as they please...

i just think a "mandate" about a house music DANCE PARTY is ridiculous

Posted by Marcus007 on Oct-18-2007 16:30:

i dunno man i think what michael did was pretty respectable

for the longest time now we've been ripping into bal, insulting them for their bookings without a rebuttal from michael or anyone at BEB

today we got a detailed writeout explaining their actions

he didnt have to sit down and write a response like that if he didnt give a shit about us or the scene

he took time out of his day to show that he actually understood our frustration but has to balance a business at the same time

maybe its just me but i find that respectable

mandate

1. a command or authorization to act in a particular way on a public issue given by the electorate to its representative: The president had a clear mandate to end the war.
2. a command from a superior court or official to a lower one.
3. an authoritative order or command: a royal mandate.

i prefer my parties mandate free

Greg you'll outgrow that urge to bitch authority (any) at some point... at the risk of staying a hippy your whole life.
