FAO: iclone, other amateur pharmacists RE: Ambien CR

How does the control release work in this form of Ambien?

I think I'm going to be starting a script to it in a few days and would like to find out a bit more about it.

it releases...... over time

one layer dissolves quickly to help you fall asleep, the other layer dissolves slowly to help you stay asleep.

The first layer of the Ambien CR tablet dissolves quickly to help people fall asleep, while the 2nd layer dissolves slowly over the night to help people stay asleep. The action of both immediate and continuous release with Ambien CR allows for increased effectiveness over the night since blood levels are more stable 3 to 6 hours after taking medication and is proven to be more effective than traditional Ambien in quality of sleep. Ambien CR and Ambien have the same active ingredient so the safety and tolerability profiles are similar. Even though Ambien CR helps maintain sleep throughout the middle of the night it does not increase the risk of "hangover" effects. A recent long term study found effectiveness over 6-months, improved morning concentration and daytime function, and no risk of abuse with Ambien CR unfortunately, RJT...

Following administration of Ambien CR, administered as a single 12.5-mg dose in healthy male adult subjects, the mean peak concentration (cmax) of zolpidem was 134 ng/mL (range: 68.9 to 197 ng/ml) occurring at a median time (tmax) of 1.5 hours. The mean AUC of zolpidem was 740 nghr/mL (range: 295 to 1359 nghr/mL).

A food-effect study in 45 healthy volunteers compared the pharmacokinetics of Ambien CR 12.5 mg when administered while fasting or within 30 minutes after a meal. Results demonstrated that with food, mean AUC and cmax were decreased by 23% and 30%, respectively, while median tmax was increased from 2 hours to 4 hours. The half-life was not changed. These results suggest that, for faster sleep onset, Ambien CR should not be administered with or immediately after a meal.

Total protein binding was found to be 92.5 0.1% and remained constant, independent of concentration between 40 and 790 ng/mL.

Ambien CR administered as a single 12.5 mg dose in healthy male adult subjects, the mean zolpidem elimination half-life was 2.8 hours (range: 1.62 to 4.05 hr).

LMAO

Posted by iclone on Oct-18-2007 23:13:

yeah.
what they said.

tbh i've never tried it cause [a] regular ambien gives me 7-8hrs of solid sleep, [b] there's no generic for CR, so it's still about $1.30/pill with my fantabulous insurance, and [c] i kinda like it all to hit at once.

cheers for thinking of me lol

I've found it releases best if you crush it up, weed out the seedy outer bits, and fire away.

Edit - Damnit.

i was just quoting one of our good friends who ate a rockstar amount of ambien at an afters and then proceeded to tell Bobby his face looked like a fence... or maybe it was a tree. either way, lulz.

i'm still buzzed from whatever substance it was that we ate last night (+ maybe the lunesta i took at 11pm), but i'm down to check out some Ambien tonight.

it hits within about 20min -- less, if you eat it on an empty stomach [or snort it]. most people actually go to bed, and ambien does it's job. however, it's also one of twelve [at last check] hypnotic sleeping agents on the market worldwide, so pushing past that initial hump gets interesting. you most-likely won't recall any of it, either.

from wiki :
quote:
Recreational use of this drug (specifically the Ambien brand) is becoming more common in young people. Recreational users claim that "fighting" the effects of the drug by forcing themselves to stay awake will sometimes cause vivid visuals and a body high (see side-effects below). However, in some people who are already in an anxious state, or suffer from neurosis it is not hard, if a struggle at all, to fight the main effect of sedation, experiencing the side-effect of euphoria more than the sedation itself. Thus some users report decreased anxiety, and even mild euphoria, as well as perceptual changes, visual distortions, and light-based hallucinations. Auditory distortions have been reported in some users. Odd behavior, confusion, and loss of balance have been reported among the various effects of the drug.
