First gig but no trance, any song suggestions?

Ok people, can you guys help me by naming none trance songs for my first gig?

Mostly good electro n housy stuff that would sound somewhat like trance.

For example stuff that sounds like this..

Montano & Coto - Chala (High Noon At Salinas Remix)

Thanks all!

Rule #1 Don't play parties where they don't wanna hear your music.

You're not gonna have fun, you're not gonna feel prepared, and you're not gonna be able to really get into it. It's unfortunate but it's the truth. I learned the hard way!

+1, it's REALLY not a good experience.

The worst is when they tell you you'll be able to play what you want, and people will be expecting it, and it turns out not to be the case at all...

Yup, I had to turn down a deal for $1000/month for playing 4 hours a night, 2 nights a week in a local bar exactly because of that. Just when you're the most inspired, and YOU KNOW you're having an amazing night comes the fucking manager and tells you to 'tune it down' or 'play something with vocals', or 'play some top 40 stuff'. Can't tell you how aggravating that was.

Ok forget that stuff people, it's a fun gig. Yeah I can't play trance but I can play stuff that's on the borderline. ie progressive, housy, electro..

It's only due to that the main room is going to be trance.

This is a big opportunity and yes I will have fun!

So please lets skip the pessimism..

When's the gig? If you've got time I'd start listening to some House DJ's that you like and get some tracks together...

In two weeks. Huh.. can you name some house n prog dj's?

the closest I like to house/prog dj's would be Paul Oakenfold..

House is way too broad of a genre to just spitting out names of DJ's that'll fit your tastes. I'll suggest some, but you'll have to start downloading stuff on your own and see what fits your liking best.

Desyn Masiello
Rowan Blades
James Zabiela
Chris Lake

Anyway, 2 weeks is not enough time to get familiar with track style, key, and structure. You just don't go out there and throw one song after the other when you're heard it like one time in your life before. If you do that you're in for a disaster.

+1, although Zabiela is way too experimental for someone getting into House for the first time.

then...when the dancefloor is ready...try to put in
FIRST STATE feat. Kelsey - Falling

if they have a good reaction, u'll be the winner man!!! If not... go on with max graham, luke chable, inkfish, david west tunes...

You can't play any trance, but you list Chalo as the style you're thinking of playing instead.

Something is just not right there.

People are saying the word 'electro' way too much lately... Not in a proper way.

Here.

Good luck with your gig. At least you're not forced to play Top40, but be prepared for a lot of drunks to bother you throughout the night

2006 called. it wants its bandwagon back.

Go to www.hybridized.org, click on the "Way Out West" link, and download some recent sets from Jody Wisternoff and Nick Warren. Those are the two dj's that come to mind if you're looking for "trancy/progressive house."

It really depends on what you are looking for though - if you're looking for something proggy and deep, go with those two, if you're looking for something more driving and techy, check out Desyn Masiello and Rowan Blades. If you're looking for something funky, check out Emjae, Steve Porter, or Luke Fair. If you're looking for something cheesy, check out Axwell or Angello. And if you're looking for something amazing, check out Danny Howells.
