Question Sound academy ??

( I dont know if this is a re-post I did a search and could not find anything )

Okay so when did this Happen The Docks is no Longer The Docks .... I guess a club called The Docks at the Docks just made too much sense and they had to give it a new lame name like the Sound Academy and the Upper Level is now the Solarium LAME... What is up with this nonsense and who is responsible for this ??

Solarium = Cool
Sound academy is a cool name too, but why mess with The Docks? Sound academy would have beena cool name for Circa.

wtf? almost as bad as the rogers centre

Posted by cono_sur on Oct-22-2007 13:22:

It's probably because of all the negative publicity they were getting over noise levels.

I posted that in the Nissim docks thread wondering when the change happened.

I personally think that Sound Academy is a decent name and sounds better than just the Docks...

New Owners and a revamp of the space

.

I think they are just trying to class it up and give a new new name to compete with Circa.

The Sound Academy > The Docks. Easily.

I personally like the name change, but for those who don't... it's just a name. LOL

Wait until you see (and hear) the real changes that come with this before jumping to any conclusions.

mmmm I swear I thought this was an advertisement for a sound academy where they teach you how to spin... lol...

I think the name is meh...

Posted by Knox on Oct-22-2007 14:04:

i'm excited to see what is in store for this old space- now revamped.....

I like the name, I just think The Docks was fitting.
Is it going to be Sound Academy @ The Docks Ent. Complex, or what?

...reminds me of Ministry of Sound.

nope, lol

But yeah Jeff is right, it's just a name. I remember when they changed "the warehouse" to the "the koolhaus" and everyone was saying shit like "we'll still always call it the warehouse". Yeah ok. You'll be surprised at how quickly your brain replaces the old name, and that calling it by that old name is only a distant (and in my case foggy) memory. The brain is funny like that, Marketing 101.

I look forward to seeing (but moreso hearing) the reno's given the name choice.

definately not competing, I work at both venues now as Technical Director

Posted by rabbitjoker on Oct-22-2007 16:38:

I've seen posters up with the new name for over a week now.

The new name is great and the changes underway at the venue are awesome as well.

Re-launching with a new name is a great idea and a wonderful way to inject some new interest in the venue.

Thanks!

You're TA at both venues? How did you fall into that? I'm just curious as a fellow nerd.

I got asked by my Boss if I would take on setting up CiRCA in addition to my sound Academy duties to help them out and i said yes, it was that simple

I don't care what they do as long as they keep Sun afternoon parties during summer on the upper part of the club starring Jeff Button

Posted by djbruuen on Oct-22-2007 17:27:

what kind of reno's are going on?

Posted by Abercrombie on Oct-22-2007 17:34:

Sound Academy as a name will work well with a some of their current market, particularly those from George S Henry Academy, Sir Sandford Fleming Academy, Ursula Franklin Academy, Vaughn Road Academy, Malvern Academy, ...
