Anyone Familiar with PATH?

I will be going from LIRR to Penn Station. I'm looking to use the PATH rail system to go to a friend's house in Jersey. Does PATH intertwine with Penn Station or do I have to go to Port Authority to use that service? Most appreciated if anyone can help. Looked at the website and got a tad confused.

My boss lives in NJ and uses it alot so he says in Penn station there will be signs that will direct you to it(walking). Above ground it would be near macy's on 34th & 6.

U could go to the P.A. or when u get to Penn just take the E Subway line to World Trade Center (last downtown stop on the E) and get on the Path there (there are plenty of signs there)...thats what i used to do when i had a client in Journal Square.

So you're saying inside the Penn there's an area for the PATH Railway? So that means I won't even have to go outside into the city then

yeah there is a tunnel. You should know sometimes when transferring from subway to subway and whatnot you might walk a block or two underground which is nice. As your walking you will see paupers, musical acts, and maybe some religious BS. Thats what makes this such a great city.

Also I heard they are raising the fare for the Metrocards

I should be ok then. My friend lives about 5 minutes outside of the Lincoln Tunnel.

A block or two isn't bad

+1, it's in the basement of the manhattan mall. I wouldn't take the subway downtown unless you have an unlimited monthly. If you go to WTC first, you actually miss all the JC stops. You can just take the 33rd street PATH train to Journal Square.

What PATH stop is he near?

Well he lives in Hoboken. The other friend is gonna pick me up to his house before we go to the airport.

You know the path goes straight from 33rd street to Hoboken right?

hmmm I was wondering, why don't you ask your friend your visiting? Unless you wanted other opinions I hope I helped about the walking through penn to get to the PATH earlier.

Yea, it's fine. He's being a little of a hard ass and told me he won't be able to pick me up because he would still be at work or something.

Frank's/nyce's option is probably the best idea.

Is there a machine where you can pay before you get on? Dumb question, but I'd like to see all the angles before hand.

You can actually use either a pay-per-ride metrocard or a PATH card that you buy. $1.50/ride.

there should be ticket machines at all stations (just like for the LIRR). actually, at 33rd street, they have machines where you can purchase either Metrocards or pay-per-ride PATH tickets.
