17,000 Watt Car Stereo

And you thought your stereo was big.

I value my hearing, but my goodness... that is a lot of air moving. I can only imagine how loud it actually is.

My god. I like a nice, crisp, punchy car audio system, but that's just asking for permanent hearing damage in about 37 seconds.

hahahahahahahaha, look at the ROOF!

That can't be good for the vehicle, either...lol.

Probably voids portions of your warranty.

lol what a fucking scrub

Posted by iclone on Oct-26-2007 15:42:

the sound system's probably worth more than the vehicle.

2006 Ford Expedition with 4 Fi BTL 18s, 8 Sundown Audio SAZ-1500Ds

I will admit I know nothing about these. Back when I was 'into' car stereo I enjoyed my single sealed JL 10W6. That was more than enough.

2 amps per sub, one powering each voicecoil. Judging by the model number of the amps, I presume thats 1500 watts per amp (peak) and maybe around 1000 watts RMS. Unless he's running it at lower impedence level to get more power.

In any case, for DB Drag competitions, it looks crap. You can see the roof moving, which means that its not diverting the soundwave into one direction and is in fact interfering with it. Proper DB drag cars have masses of sound deadening, concrete in the floors, and 1 inch thick bulletproof windows to make sure the sound only travels in one direction.

So after my diatribe above, the guy has set up his system for street bass, rather than pure SPL. Just by looking at the amount of air that is moving, I would estimate around 155ish decibels.

Scott began developing the truck in May 2002, breaking it down to the frame for the construction of the subwoofer enclosure to hold nine Pioneer Premier TS-W5000SPL subwoofers. In order to withstand the enormous pressure produced in the truck, steel bars were used to reinforce the frame of the enclosure. The windshield was also replaced and reconstructed with 2-1/2-inch thick plexi-glass. Each door of the truck weighs more than 200 pounds and utilizes 1 x 2 aluminum hinges to hold it in place. To prevent air leaks, crucial in competition, the air inside the truck is vacuum-sealed much like a bank vault. The truck holds 36 amplifiers, 72 16-volt Turbo Start batteries and three Ohio Generator 285-amp alternators and produces 115,200 watts of power.

I want to hear that. How many dB is it approximately?

Posted by Marc Summers on Oct-26-2007 21:41:

Posted by Gauss on Oct-26-2007 21:48:

Oh, I see now, 173.3 dB.

To compare, jack hammer at 1 m distance is 100 dB, threshold of pain is 130 dB and jet engine at 30 m distance is 150 dB.

this will probably be his next purchase..

MPO 110-120 db
