2007-26-10 Adam Beyer @ Opera house- Review

Just got back. All I have to say was this show was absolutely amazing. Even with all the hype leading up to it, he still some how managed to absolutely stun me. Adam beyer is a fucking genius behind a set of turntables. Loved his set, everything from nice groovy minimal to pounding hard techno. I'm not sure what everyone else is thinking, but i definatly think that was easily a candidate for set of the year. But thats just my opinion :P Opera house is a pretty sick venue for techno too, it definatly worked well. Nice to meet Jem-heder too, good old georgian bay lads haha. Anyways, this might not be a very good review but im tired and heading to bed. Hope everyone had a good night!!! and definatly make sure to bring beyer back, (With bart skils maybe :P)

One of my friends went to this; I know she was looking forward to it big time so it's nice to hear that Adam delivered.

Venue - Very cool, they should more parties there
Crowd - Wasn't really into the crowd at the beginning - too many drunk girls who don't realize there are other people trying to enjoy themselves.
Music - it was good, not great. Beyer was a bit too up and down for me.

Party - I had a good time because of all my friends, but this party was not even close to last years at 99 Sudbury

Afterparty - interesting group of people it attracted, dj and music was not very good, lots of technical difficulties,...Beyer hadn't shown up by 8AM when I left

Amazing venue for this type of party, nice staff, good crowd.

Beyer was very decent though not outstanding. Didn't play alot of minimal per se, but played more mid-level stuff than banging tunes. When he did play the more pumping stuff the crowd was loving it.

Pleasure speaking to all the TA's I ran into during the night.

8/10 overall.

I missed this one... just too tired and rain didn't help. So where was the afterparty?

Posted by CAKE on Oct-27-2007 16:31:

This was mine first time at opera house and i have to say i like the venue it prettyt nice. This was also my first time seeing beyer he was good, played a banging set i would have preferd more minimal, but that's just me. Good to see everyone <3!

Overall I was disapointed of my night, had high expectations.

Got there at 1am, apparently i was the last person that bought tickets to arrive lol. Beyer had just started 10 mins before we got there.

The venue looks really cool for techno parties, except:
- shut the lighting off that lights up the bars, the place was way too bright. The lights from the stage were ok
- Crank up the sound. Like seriously, I could listen into conversations next to me. Didnt need earplugs at all.

Beyer was good, had some good moments. However he had quite a few buildups that led to nowhere. IMO, his set was a warmup set!

The guy that came after, X-Stream I believe, bored me in the first 20-30 mins of his set, and then started dropping some hard techno, which I really loved. Even then, his transitions were sloppy.

I was tempted to go to the afterparty, but the lady was tired...

Overall 6.5/10 :|

it was banging. it was good.
some folks in toronto don't know how to dance, they talk and socialize during sets.fucking lame.

^^ jay hit it on the nose almost for me.

this sums up my take on the night (sadly)

glad i still went though of course. just seeing beyer again was a pleasure and an honour.

Ditto man. Nice to meet you.

Also met 2 or 3 other TAs... sorry, forget your names. It was a long day yesterday and my brain has been purged of any info it absorbed that night...

UGH! Are you kidding me!!! I decided to make the call to leave at about the 30 min mark!! BALLS allovertheplace!! This sucks. I left before the real hard banging techno started.

How fuckign disappointing. Im really upset to learn this.

Honestly, the people made this night for me - friends I haven't seen in ages were all there. Parties like this draw even the crustiest of techno heads out of their homes and on to the dancefloor. I couldn't get into Adam's set at all. There was nothing groovy about it, it just went bang bang bang all night. No blips or beeps or funky basslines, no weird vocals that he usually puts out - I was quite disappointed. For Adam, it seemed fairly uncreative. Apparently he was pissey about the CDJ800 when he asked for a 1000 and some issues with the monitors. No one was really givin' er either - no hands in the air moments like there were all the time at 99 sudbury. Then X-Dream dropped the energy level even further after that and I started rounding up troops to go to the after party.

The sound really lacked the punch that is required for a techno set as well.

I'm curious to hear the set again, since it was probably recorded.

i thought Adam set was great and very well done. Mixing was very clean. Not so much highlights but still a very good job.

re

really nice party, nice people (some people dont got respect), nice venue, nice costume

the sound was kinda bad at some spots and i was maybe expecting more from beyer. but had a nice time in TO.

who was the dj opening for beyer ? greg gow ? he did an awesome set

skipper are you the girl i talk with at the end of beyer's set. Your feet were hurting and we talked about aria club !?

Posted by jchung52 on Oct-29-2007 01:56:

an 800? i would be pissed too

Posted by Cribby on Oct-29-2007 04:28:

Everyone went in there with pretty high expectations. I went mental only a few times, which means it was just a good set. Greg Gow was pretty great. Deejay after Beyer was just awful. Wish I made it in time for Jamie Kidd.

Hmmm, the night was kind of fuzzy at that point, so I don't recall that at all. I was wearing comfortable shoes.

Can anyone ID this track? (This vid is from another party, but Adam played this as his last track on Friday) I danced my arse off...pretty much the only time during his set where I was rockin out. I wish I had heard more stuff like this throughout the night, however, he did play Ulysse - Sometimes. <3
