Nocturnal 116 Interview with Mason

Mason is the stage name for Dutch producer Iason Chronis. He had a number one on the UK Dance Chart in 2007 with a reworking of his track Exceeder. Exceeder had originally been an instrumental and had received a vinyl only release in the UK in 2006. The new version of the track featured vocals from Princess Superstar and reached number 3 on the national British chart in January.
Other bootlegs of Exceeder, such as Hollaback Exceeder - a mash-up with Gwen Stefani's Hollaback Girl, are in existence.
Mason was born in Amsterdam to a Dutch actress and Greek sculptor. He learned the violin from age 6 and practised DJing using his grandmother's turntables in his teens. He did a four-year course in Music Composition and Performance, for which he received an award from the Dutch Royal Family.

[Katie - Nocturnal Radio Show team] Hey Mason how are you today?
[Mason] A bit tired from the ADE last week, and ehh a bit hungry because I
forgot to bring food to the studio and now all there is is old cheese
and candy.
[Katie - Nocturnal Radio Show team] So you started playing violin as early as six years old, is there an instrument you have not yet learned but you would like to?
[Mason] I'd love to play proper guitar... in case I'd ever join the boyscouts
[Katie - Nocturnal Radio Show team] What was the first brand of turn tables you ever used?
[Mason] My grandmothers. I wonder if they actually had a brandname. They're definately from before the war (and smelled like it)
[Katie - Nocturnal Radio Show team] Do you remember your first record you ever bought?
[Mason] Guns N Roses - Appetite for Destruction.
[Katie - Nocturnal Radio Show team] Ever been in a punch on with anyone? why?
[Mason] Once with my teammate at basketball at age 12. I was the shortest of the team, and he was the fattest. So we both kinda sucked and needed to impress he rest in other ways (Darwin and all that). I'm not sure who won, but at a certain point I had his full body weight on top of my head which was unconfortable.
[Katie - Nocturnal Radio Show team] Worst thing you ever did as a young teenager?
[Mason] Join basketball.
[Katie - Nocturnal Radio Show team] Do you remember the first drink you ever had?
[Mason] Yeah that was a Malibu & Orange juice. It felt good.
[Katie - Nocturnal Radio Show team] With all the work you do plus travelling how do you make time to see your friends and family?
[Mason] Oof you're touching a sour spot there... But I'm usually in Amsterdam throughout the week and I do get out of the studio at night.
[Katie - Nocturnal Radio Show team] Do you enjoy working/djing New Years Eve & New Years Day? Do you sleep or just keep partying through the night?
[Mason] I like to dj on NYE, but there's some kind of curse on me having a good night. The last one was a cancelled party because of a shooting in the club, the one before was a horrible party because I had a friend who puked throughout my entire house (yes my bed too).
[Katie - Nocturnal Radio Show team] What will the listeners be hearing from you during the rest of the year any tracks in the works?
[Mason] Yeah enough! There are a few dancefloor tracks coming out on labels like Pickadoll and io Music, and my artist album is in the final stage which will have more poppy tracks on it. I also mixed a CD for the 5 year anniversary of Electronation, which is released worldwide this month.
