cabs can get expensive, to try not to stay too far away from plaza caracol, in the hotel zone, which is where most of the bars/clubs are.
the hotel zone is one long strip (kinda like south beach) and locations are noted by kilometers from a starting point. try to find something between km 8 and km 9 if possible.
unless you are really trying to save money, don't stay near the center of town - it is far from the beach. but the bus runs all night and is pretty cheap.
i prefer playa del carmen. smaller and more easy going than cancun but still a lot of craziness.
I went to Cancun for Spring Break last year stayed at a shitty/cheap hotel in the heart of the main strip (I think it was called Girasol). I got my friend who was staying at the Oasis Cancun to "lose" their bracelet and give it to me, so I had access to all of their facilities for the week. It cost them $100 to get a new one but I paid it for him and it was well worth it. That's where all the day action is and the hotel has a great pool and pretty good food, including a sushi bar, all inclusive.
As for the clubs, I was very disappointed. Keep in mind that during Spring Break they are catering to a majority of American college students, so pretty much the only music you will hear all week is Hip-Hop. These were all the clubs that are located in the usual packages: The City, Basic, Dady' O, Koko Bongo's (dont even step foot in there), etc...
The only one of those that played any sort of EDM was Dady O, and it didn't come on until about 2-3am, and the clubs close sometime around 4:30, or at least a majority of the people leave by then (Dady O did have a sick laser system though). Honestly, the best night I had out was catching Jason Jollins at this smaller local venue on the water called Nectar Bar. That was an awesome place/night.
If you're looking for more of a nightlife and more EDM, I suggest heading to Acapulco. I've been there for the past two years and prefer it over Cancun greatly. It's rapidly gaining popularity with the Spring Break crowd and provides just as good of day parties as Cancun from my experience.
There are two really nice clubs in Acapulco called Mandara and Palladium. Both have EAW Avalon sound systems that pump, and both are run really well. Cover is $50 for open bar from 12-5am. The clubs stay open until the last person leaves as well, I was there until 8-9AM on a few occasions. The also mix in much more EDM into the night (I know Tiesto and Calderone have been there in the past year). Overall, those two clubs beat out anything Cancun had to offer, IMO. I believe STS has packages where you get 2 nights at each of those clubs.
The only thing worse about Acapulco is the food and getting there. Other than that, I would suggest staying away from Cancun if your asking advice on a site called tranceaddict.
Feel free to PM me any specific questions on the issue.

I have a time share in Cancuun at Royal Sunset. Its about a mile walk from Daddy's O's, The City, CoCo Bongo and Hooters. Awsome Hotel and very accomdating. Never been to Cancuun on Spring and was actually looking to go that week. Tryin to round up the crew to is a bit tough
Yo thanks for the input everyone... To be honest, I don't really care whats going on at the clubs, I'm not going there for EDM or anything I just wanna have the typical spring break experience. Getting wasted and sleeping with random skanks
One of my biggest concerns are the all-inclusive packages.
We're most likely going to stay at the Oasis, cuz it seems like that's where it's at. If I get an all-inclusive there does that mean I can eat/drink all I want, including booze as long as I'm at the hotel/resort?
Also what are the deals with club passes? I heard someone say that when you get there people try to sell you wristbands that get you open bar in tons of clubs or something? Anyone have any details on that?
I had some people tell me the all-inclusives are bullshit and just get the cheapest package and then pay for booze, and others say go all-inclusive.
What do you all think?

for EDM, clubs suck, but for other party music it is a fun time
better pump up the roids if ya want some skanks
I was there a few years ago and i had a blast. Lots of things have changed since then due to a few hurricanes etc ( i acctually go stuck there during one and spent the night in a hurricane shelter with food poisining - easily the worst 24hrs of my life)
anyhoo, there used to be a beach side club called NECTAR, this was an afterhours club that only played EDM. This place was FUCKING INSANE, we saw anthony pappa play a 7 hr set there and it was total bedlem - in a good way, cool crowd, strong drinks, the dj booth was set up on the beach ( on the lagoon side) so the sunrise was behind Pappa Playing ..... there was still like 100+ people there when we left at 2pm - If its still there i strongly suggest it!!!
ingy
ps its totaly unknown to the spring break crowd so there are no beligerant arse-holes running about. I would suggest asking a taxi driver about it. There was also a few hot tubs set up in various places - the place was dooope!

Ah, another question, are there any shady locals trying to scam you with bullshit wristbands and club passes etc? or is everything pretty legit?
Whatever you do.
Don't get on the wrong bus.
I accidently went to downtown Cancun

You should be fine if you're going through a legitamate Spring Break Agency such as STS (www.ststravel.com) or Student City. Don't worry about being scammed out of hotel rooms or anything like that, they're big companies and get things right.
If you get all inclusive, you can eat and drink as much as you want at the hotel. I would recommmend this at Oasis Cancun, their food is very good and there's plenty of bars available all day.
Buying your own alcohol is cheaper, but it becomes a hassle. The hotels have security that roam around the premises and if they see you with your own cooler of beer or bottle of liquor, they will take it away. Many have people stationed at the elevator to try and prevent you from bringing alcohol up to the rooms. It becomes a game of hide-n-seek drinking which isn't too much fun when you're trying to have a good time.
If you go through an agency, buy their party package. It will include passes for a club each night which includes admission and open bar. Pretty much every Spring Breaker down there will purchase their agencys' party package, so the places will be crowded. They're will always be people trying to scam you into something, so be on the lookout for anything shady.
And I agree, do not get on the wrong bus. It gets a bit confusing because there are so many, but I think the green buses are teh ones you want. They cost like $.07 and are quite the adventure when returning from the clubs at night...
And any pharmacy will take care of you for the right price...
I am pretty sure Sasha/Digweed, PvD and others all played at The City a few yrs back right in the middle of march.
HOWEVER, do NOT use STS travel b/c they OVERBOOK flights/hotels and use charter flights. You will eb stuck in the airport for hrs. I was stuck in JFK for 24 hrs and lost almost 2 days off my trip and was not given a refund. Spend a little more and use Liberty Tavel and book a direct flight. You'll thank me alter.
As for the parties..those big compaies give you bracelets and their "DEALS" are lame (open bar from like 7-9) and they only at certain clubs and you see the same peopl in you little group over and over again.

anyone have info on Playa Del Carmen
Ok man - you said you want the typical Spring Break experience so you have half the work done by going to the Oasis. They have 4 different "Phases" I think Phase 2 is the nicest but if you are going on a spring break package I'm sure you wont be in there. It will still be fine since you are going for a Spring Break experience you will have an accomodating room to sleep, chit, shower, and do whatever with afore mentioned skanks.
The Phases are just 4 different buildings of the hotel, you can walk through the inside to each one of them. The beach is beautiful but rough at the side of the Oasis. Like mentioned before, go through a legit website and get all inclusive. They will give you the wrist band at the hotel and you will eat and drink all the booze you can handle for free*
*Disclaimer* You will drink for free but you should go prepared to tip a lot. The bartenders will straight ignore you if you don't tip! I dont blame them cause all these drunk frat dooods never tip them and are always screaming at them. Tip - Find the bartender at the bar you are going to be spending the most time and give him a good tip at the beginning of the day. I went down after breakfast and got a beer from our bartender when no one was around and slipped him a $20usd and said 'This is for me and my 3 friends take care of us the rest of the day' - This guy tried to kill give us and the random chicks that ended up at the bar with us alchol poisoning the rest of the trip! Basically don't act like the typical 'Beer pong king' asshat and you will get served more than your fairshare of poison.
The security guards are sometimes assholes so watch out for them. Don't leave valuables in your room cause it will get stolen.
That was the hotel, on to the parties ....
When you go down to your lobby around 9 there will be some guys selling tickets to the party of the night place(DaddyO's, Coco Bongo, The City, ...) every night. Don't worry it is legit. Usually around $40usd and it includes bus ride there and free booze inside *Remember tips! Most of the clubs in Cancun are free booze. Don't get into a fight with a huge mexican and get headbutted in the nose at Segnor Frogs. You wanted typical SB experience, Segnor Frog takes the cake for that (minus bloody nose ...).
One more thing, dont miss the foam party they have at the Oasis (Wed or Thur) The foam comes up to your neck/nose, I had a lot of fun (Trust me, sex in the foam on the dancefloor is possible ... if the bouncer notices and comes over a $20 takes care of that also)
They played EDM after all the shows toward the end at Coco Bongo but even without the edm scene still lots of stories to tell your grandsons if you are able to copulate after your trip. Hell, I might be there again if I don't do WMC. Will try to post pics up if I get a chance.
End of book.
