Remember remember the fifth of November..

Just a heads up for Ron Paul supporters.. (and fans of V for Vendetta)

100,000 donations of $100 each = 10 million dollars in one day.

If successful, this will be by far the largest one day political fundraiser...EVER. If you care about protecting the few liberties we have left in this country, stand up and be counted.

edit: LOL @ this

No! Remember remember the 5th of September (and buy me a card)

I think the other contenders are seriously underestimating Ron Paul. Check out this video of him on Jay Leno. He gets a quiet reception at first since most non-political types don't know who he is...but after a quick five minute conversation where he shares his ideas, the audience gives him a standing ovation.

Be afraid Giuliani.

14,009 subscribers and 4 days remain. Long way to go.

Still, 14009 x $100 = 1.4 million. Dunno if they will all pay though.

It's a stupid idea. I love Ron Paul to death, but it's still a dumb idea.

Eh, whatever gets him money is fine with me in the end.

It wasn't Ron Paul's idea and it has nothing to do with his campaign.

An independent group organized it and although they were obviously shooting for the stars, their efforts have already raised his total contribution amount by more than 25%

While that's harldy even beginning to venture into "in the deep pockets of military contractors, Hillary Clinton" territory, it's still a lot better than where he previously stood.

Today is the day! Let's do it folks! Even a $5-10 donation will go a long way. Paul is running a very frugal campaign and will not waste any money he gets. Every penny will go into spreading the message of liberty, and to attracting new voters to his cause.

He is the last best hope for America. Please show your support!

He's raised like a million dollars so far today

Posted by eROs.au on Nov-05-2007 20:14:

Damn! I'm eating those words I said earlier about this being stupid. Over 2 million and going

Well, it's the 5th of November! So happy Guy Fawkes day!

How funny is it that fireworks have been going off all week in a civilised country to celebrate burning effigies of Catholics on top of a big bonfire!

God bless the Queen!

He just crossed 3 Million.

Sent in my 100 this morning. glad i could be a part of history no matter how small a part.

Posted by Capitalizt on Nov-06-2007 01:07:

zomg 3 million...

So much for those arguments that Paul only has the support of hackers who use programs to "spam" online polls.

Are the thousands of donations today being "spammed" with fake money? lol. Looks like the media will finally be forced to admit that this is a true grass roots effort growing by leaps and bounds.

I noticed on the Wolf Blitzer clip that they droned on about comparisons to Guy Fawkes, and spent no time at all on what Paul really stands for...but if CNN wants to compare Ron Paul to blowing up of buildings they can. It will still draw attention to his campaign and the movie, and people will see the similarity between the grass roots effort here and and the thousands of people in V costumes turning out into the streets peacefully and backing the police state down.

Posted by eROs.au on Nov-06-2007 01:11:

The 15 seconds that CNN gave Ron Paul today sucked. "He has supposedly raised almost 2.8 million dollars. However, we cannot confirm those numbers until it has been submitted to the FEC (or whatever) at the end of the year"

Paul Raises More Than $3.5 Million

By JIM KUHNHENN 32 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AP) Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, aided by an extraordinary outpouring of Internet support Monday, hauled in more than $3.5 million in 20 hours.

Paul, the Texas congressman with a Libertarian tilt and an out-of-Iraq pitch, entered heady fundraising territory with a surge of Web-based giving tied to the commemoration of Guy Fawkes Day.

Fawkes was a British mercenary who failed in his attempt to kill King James I on Nov. 5, 1605. He also was the model for the protagonist in the movie "V for Vendetta." Paul backers motivated donors on the Internet with mashed-up clips of the film on the online video site YouTube as well as the Guy Fawkes Day refrain: "Remember, remember the 5th of November."

Paul's total deposed Mitt Romney as the single-day fundraising record holder in the Republican presidential field. When it comes to sums amassed in one day, Paul now ranks only behind Democrats Hillary Rodham Clinton, who raised nearly $6.2 million on June 30, and Barack Obama.

Paul spokesman Jesse Benton said the effort began independently about two months ago at the hands of Paul's backers. He said Paul picked up on the movement, mentioning in it speeches and interviews.

"It's been kind of building up virally," Benton said.

The $3.5 million, he said, represented online contributions from more than 22,000 donors.

Paul has been lagging in the polls behind Republican front-runners. But he captured national attention at the end of September when he reported raising $5.2 million in three months, putting him fourth among Republican presidential candidates in fundraising for the quarter.

Paul as of Monday had raised $6.3 million since Oct. 1, more than half his goal of $12 million by the end of the year, according to his Web site.

Paul advocates limited government and low taxes like other Republicans, but he stands alone as the only GOP presidential candidate opposed to the Iraq war. He also has opposed Bush administration security measures that he says encroach on civil liberties.

I'm surprised we endorse the same candidate..

I'm in my local ron paul meetup group, but havn't had much success meeting up with them. My area is new so I guess we're trying to organize a more cohesive campaign group.

Posted by Capitalizt on Nov-06-2007 05:12:

He got 4 million!

Posted by Capitalizt on Nov-06-2007 05:53:

This fifth definitely will NOT be forgotten

Posted by Lebezniatnikov on Nov-06-2007 07:19:

I admit it's impressive, but reading into the numbers, I was surprised by how few donations actually comprised the total figure. Only 25,000 odd donations across a country of 220,000,000 voters doesn't seem anywhere near as exciting as the money total. I don't mean to downplay the fundraising accomplishment, but it doesn't reflect the kind of grassroots support you might think it does. Howard Dean's campaign strategy was similar to this and had similar success - but the average campaign donation was only $20, far less than Paul's average gift, signifying a broader support among the population.

So yeah, Paul's supporters should be commended for being diehard. But I am still not convinced that there are all that many of them.
