djing/live in ableton

Hi just bought Ableton with the aim of djing and incorperating live fx etc in the sets. I want to hook my A&H xone 62 up with ableton and mix as if i were using decks. Can I do this??? also how do others dj on ableton in regards to laying the set out etc...

Does anyone know of any dj tutorials???

Also need to know how people have there hardware set up with ableton?

Before you start djing with ableton, you need to be profficient in warping tracks (its rather easy though), search for videos on youtube, there are a couple of good ones on there.

and as for djing with your xone 62, you will need an external sound card to dj "normally"

thanks acton i will check those out. How would the setup be if i have an external soundcard, will i be able to monitor in headphone from the mixer??

Will the set up go like this ableton live > audio/midi interfaces > EXTERNAL SOUNCARD > xone 32 > Speakers???

Not exactly true, you just need multiple separated stereo outputs on your soundcard. An external soundcard could be more handy though.

Storyteller, how do i find out if ive got seperate outputs on my soundcard?? I have novation xiosynth and mac book pro.

also you can use 2 soundcards (maybe on board + ur existing pci) using ASIO4ALL.

what will you do with the two cards? I mean...you'd have to set up both to the higher latency of the on board card...which means...that will feel like...using two integrated pieces of junk and will not possibly use the potential of the better card

the guy just bought Live and wants to try it to the fullest , so some latency till he buys a new card is better than nothing

I just thought it would be fair to point that out...I've tried this solution and the latency was killing me :-/ so I switched the onboard one off and used doubled mono channels off my stereo external card

Check the manual from the xiosynth. I think it does have multiple outputs you can use for different things at the same time . Could be mistaking it for another novation model though...

I don't know anything about mac so can't help you with that I'm afraid.

Have taken every1s points into consideration and will check out tonight. I have looked at buying and m - audio firewire audiofile external soundcard. Need to get my Allen and Heath working with ableton then i can start using it for basic djing then look at ways to progress the live performance.
