Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street

Just watched A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, great movie, but that's not what's on my mind. I came to hear Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street and remembered what a great song it is. I decided to start tracking down some other stuff with similar vibe to it, such as Dire Straits - Your Latest Trick and Chris Isaak - Wicked Game. Obviously not trance tunes, but so what, we've had that discussion before and I've heard some interesting use of songs like this being used in mixes.

They are all pretty obvious classics but way ahead of my time. Would love to get some advice on more tracks with similar feel to them, not necessary as familiar as the tracks I mentioned. Have a feeling some of you guys in here are quite well acquainted with the territory.

I love Baker Street, a true classic. It's on my iPod in frequent rotation. Here are a couple of suggestions (the sound quality isn't great), let me know if you like these and I will try to dig up some more.

James Taylor - Fire and Rain

Neil Young - Old Man

America - A Horse with No Name

Cat Stevens - Cats in the Cradle

The fact that you think Baker Street is similar to Wicked Game blows my mind.

Thanks. Can see that I was quite vague in my description in what type of songs that I was looking for. Though, judging by your recommendations it seems that you grasped what I wanted anywas. That A Horse with No Name track is awesome for an example

Well it really isn't in so many ways but I've liked it ever since trentemoller put it in his essential mix. I guess it's quite a wide range of songs that I'm open for then?

In this track and Baker Street the lead instrument "makes" the song somehow. I guess in some ways that's what I'm after, though there's always exceptions (wicked game).

They may not be similar in style, but they seem similar in vibe to me.

I guess you are referring to the saxaphone (lead instrument) in Baker Street and the Dire Straits track? Wicked Game does not have saxaphone, but a similar laidback feel. I will go through some more music and see if I can come up with any other suggestions for you. Am happy you like the Horse with No Name, it's one of my favorites too. Fire and Rain is wonderful, very sad.

Perhaps

David Stewart & Candy Dulfer - Lily Was Here

It's a nice yet melancholic sax driven piece i've always liked. It's the title track from the late 80s movie by the same name. Has also been remixed in recent years into Leama & Moor style proggy trance from what i recall. I'll think of some others later.

I wish someone would make a decent remix of Baker Street. There are a bunch of shit trance remixes.

I want to see Baker Street (Lemon8 Remix)

Baker Street is one of my all time favorite tracks. As Ben already mentioned the Foo Fighters did an excellent cover of it, but I really don't think it lends itself well to an electronic remake.

Supertramp's 'Goodbye Stranger' always gave me the same vibe as Baker Street.
