1. Oil and Gas Sector

2. George Bush

Well, depends on how much the customs fee kills you, I'm guessing you're breaking even in terms of Canadian dollar vs US dollar?

edit: Peter, wanna buy me a xone92 rotary?

well the CDJ's won't be charged a customs fee as far as I know (shipping to US address, then being carried over in open box [or even without box]).

As for the TV; I'll probably get one here and just settle for some nice cheap PC parts since I need to upgrade and my mom is gonna be in the states in 2 weeks. I'll just get her to bring me the CPU, vid card, etc etc.

edit: oh, and no. I'll get it for myself though

I wrote an Economics Paper in Grade 12 that suggested that this would happen.

Not to this degree but that it was get to the $0.90 range...

GO CANADA!!

I'm going on a road trip to the US next weekend and staying in Rochester! I think its about time I get myself a nice GPS system.

Also, I just booked a cruise in the Carribean. I had to decide if I wanted to pay $860.00CDN or $699.00US (both included taxes).

hmmmm

Some of us get paid in US dollars, so this is TERRIBLE for me! Go down damn it!

Additionally, how wise would it be to buy a whole lot of US dollars?

I've had a US Account for years.....I don't think the Canadian Dollar will sustain this long term and eventually the Dollar will go back down to a more reasonable level....probably around .88 to .92.

As an export nation the high canadian dollar is not a good thing long term

i was thinking the same thing. If i had money to invest, i'd definitely go nuts on it in about a month or so when it surpases $1.10...its inevitably going to come back down. Selling in 2 years you'd probably make a killing.

Posted by Skipper on Nov-02-2007 23:16:

A lot of market watchers are saying that the loonie's run is just about over - there might be some short term steam left in it, but it's not sustainable. I heard the top dude at Export Development Canada speak a few weeks ago and their consensus is that the dollar is worth about 80-85 cents in the long run.

That said, the main drivers are rising commodity prices (Canada produces and exports a lot of commodities) and strong economic indicators, like the jobless rate, which is at a generational low.

The US is Canada's biggest trading partner so when their dollar loses purchasing power, it's ultimately not good for the Canadian economy. Then you have all of these people taking their consumer business across the border. Not good. Drives me nuts to hear people cheering about it, actually

Definatly

I hear it might hit as high as $1.25?

Posted by Silky Johnson on Nov-02-2007 23:23:

I better do some more online shopping while there's still time! Yay!

Posted by Spin Laden on Nov-02-2007 23:31:

exactly. The harsh border waits, long drives and cavity searches almost nullify the savings. At home you can shop naked

If people knew how high it will go with any degree of certainty, it wouldn't be such a big deal every time it goes up.

I'll hold off for about a month and then I'll go for it
