terms that i hate

dirty house

give me a break. seems like people are using this term to define a genre. i always thought dirty was a good adjective to describe some tracks but ill never use it again. thanks cheeseballs, but that house you refer to as 'dirty house' aint dirty at all. it should just be called cheeseball house.

EDM

thats another one i hate. i dont know why

Posted by dEsidEL on Nov-03-2007 03:33:

shitshow

Posted by Spin Laden on Nov-03-2007 03:35:

that's why we need new words like "pletchy" or "skur". Now THOSE are dirty

lol you can't hate that term
it defines a genre in its most basic elements

that's like saying you hate using "dairy product" to define milk

silly boy

Posted by mnemonic. on Nov-03-2007 04:02:

holy fuck, tell me about it, dirty this and dirty that, sick and tired of seeing it already.

hahaha. i like that analogy. but i dont care i still hate that acronym and the term 'electronic dance music' in general. i think the use of EDM is mostly a tranceaddict thing

from my experience, yes.

btw.. I love the term dirty.

Posted by barbina on Nov-03-2007 04:50:

i love when people say dirty
it just means theyre wayyy into it
it makes me happy haha

EDM.. uh.. i dont see a problem with that

I hate when people say "sickkkk"
i just wanna kick em

Posted by DigitalMP on Nov-03-2007 05:17:

dirty house is a fact, not an opinion. (saeed younan - remixed, d2 feat. dan diamond - therapy (peace division), bsod - this is the hook, john dahlback - blink, etc.)

choon, however, can fuck the fuck off.

+googleplex, I totally agree. Every time i see 'choon' typed it's like nails scratching a chalkboard. By the way, I'm trying to slip '+googleplex' into the TA vernacular as well

Spin Laden

PS, I predict overuse of the term 'FAIL' on here pretty soon

Watchu talkin bout Willis? Dirty is the greatest term ever, there IS such a thing as dirty house, Its just to bad that you have yet to discover it.

If you've never looked at the person on your left in the Gallery and said "That's f***in durrty".........you wouldn't know

P.S. Choon needs to die already

Posted by DaRoZa on Nov-03-2007 07:53:

+1 if EDM referrs to an entire genre of music, then is ambient really EDM? its electronic music, but do u really dance to ambient? the genre should be electronic music, not EDM.

Posted by DigitalMP on Nov-03-2007 15:25:

EDM describes "electronic music you can (or will, with proper assistance) dance to", and if a term that is useful when explaining electronic music aside from rock, hip hop, whatever other non-electronic genres (though that's even vague nowadays, but it's still relevant), especially to non-EDMers a.k.a. "techno-haters".

EDM isn't a genre, but a collection of the electronic dance genres (see ishkur, etc.).

I agree with the dirty house and most things dirty.

Posted by DigiNut on Nov-03-2007 17:11:

Dirty, filthy, nasty, ill, sick, blah. As opposed to all that clean, healthy music you like to listen to.

I wonder how many people's favourite music isn't dirty. The adjective used to imply something along the lines of distortion, pitch bends, and heavily compressed saw basses. Now it's yet another meaningless filler word, like "dude" or "like". It feels even older than "groovy" now, and that word is pretty fucking old.

This thread is so DIRTY

problem is....ive found people call ambient tracks "dirty" too...the term dirty isnt being used in the way it should be (as u well defined it) any more....

EDM....its mostly the jackasses that try to sound too cool infront of the mainstream crowds...i just say electronica or electronic music which IS the genre and doesnt make some mainstreamer need an explanation..."oh whats EDM?" the jackasses like being asked to define EDM to sound more l337

as for terms/phrases i hear too often related to our scene that make me wanna pull my eyes out are:
shitshow
PLUR (no it really is just BS cos its a chemically induced situation)
"tearing it up"/"tore it up"
"ripped the (insert club name) a new asshole"
"keeping it real"

list will be updated as i remember

Posted by ReenTeenTeen on Nov-03-2007 22:02:

how about its nasty like inside your GF's pants?

PS. The term comes from the ghetto. I guess it isnt a white thing where everything has to make a point or a likeness to terms of expression.

PSS. Who da fuck make you an EDM Human Resourses?

Dirty house implies electro house. Which is hell of a lot different than classic or chicago house.

Sick I agree with though, it is very irritating when it is overused.

this is my problem. this genre doesnt deserve to be called 'dirty house'. dirty should be an adjective that can be used when talking about a song from any genre of music that is actually dirty sounding. not as a word designated to an entire genre itself. most of the songs that fall under the so called 'dirty house' category are over produced and cheesey and complete free of any dirty characteristics
