my little nephew reads Harry Potter and he's 6.

harry potter = awesome story.
sure they were written more for kids, but open your mind a little.
they are great books, and definetly addictive. i encourage anyone of any age to read them

Smile ok...

For some reason I refuse to read Harry Potter because I think it's fantasy for kids. I dunno why, usually I'm a lot more open minded and I will read it...but nothing beats Dragonlance "Chronicles" series, NOTHING. And Lord of The Rings is awesome as well, some parts are boring but the rest is wicked.

To my surprise the movie was excellently done!!!!!!

fantasy stories are great! talk about a nice break from all the reality we face in our lives. it just opens up your mind and imagination.

What have you read? The Chronicles? There's a new series coming out...I NEED to get it...I think it's called "The War of Souls"

Posted by davinox on Apr-28-2002 07:04:

i read the first one.

it was OK...

James and the Giant Peach is a better choice for kids.
Lord of the Rings is a better choice for everyone else.

--

by the way, my two favorite books ever are...

Lord of the Rings (of course...fuckin massive)
Brave New World

no dude, what i started this thread about, harry potter

i just finished the 3rd harry potter book, and wow.. omg.. ive had goosebumps or whatever for the past 3 hours, AMAZING.

....starting the 4th book now, my brother says it gets better, btw, read the second book, i wasnt hooked until i read it, and wow... thats all i have to say..

harry potter is brilliantly written
personally, i just loved the way everything was described and how easy it was to picture everything. the story-line is a little child-like but i still loved all four books
the movie........ acting kinda sucked, but i still loved the special effects and how it was directed

as for lord of the rings, i find it a quite difficult read actually. i dont know if i would recommend it to younger kids and teenagers. the language is kinda intense i would say, still a good book and a good movie

i read it when i was like 13, and i understood most of it at the time.

it's all up to the reader.

Another book I STRONGLY recommend is Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time. vErY cool.

you dont have to read them in order btw. you can start with the last one (i wouldnt recommend that b/c its humangous)
try starting with the second one, i liked that one a lot as well. j.k. rowling does a great job on updating a reader on what happend since the beginning in all of the books.
so grab the chamber of secrets. its fairly short and a good read

i second that stephen hawkin's a brief history of time
havent read it yet, browsed thru and heard lots of great things about the book

Posted by lMIlk on Apr-29-2002 05:38:

i admit i read all of them too. I read the first one when it first came out, and it was pretty good so i read the 2nd and 3rd one in like 3 days and then read the massive 4th one in a few days.
