Smiley DJ Doing my first club gig. In need of help.

Hey there guys,

I was asked by a promoter to do a gig at this new 3-story club that's opening up. Unfortunately, it's going to have to be a Hip-Hop gig. I wanna try and sneak in some EDM in the middle of the set. Do any of you have any playlists that have Hip-Hop (mostly top 40 stuff) mixed in with a little EDM? This is going to be my first club I really want to make a good first impression; keep the crowd dancing constantly; being consistant with dancey tunes.

I will later try to convince the promoter to make a floor exclusively for EDM.

If the promoters want hip hop, give them hip hop. Give them what they want to make a good first impression. Experimenting with other stuff could be risky.

If you want to spin EDM, why did you agree to a hip hop gig?

Seriously. I never understood why these threads always pop up.

It's always good to have a wide range of genre-wise DJ talent, but playing out a genre you've never even played in your bedroom before is not that good of an idea.

If you need to ask this shit you're not a DJ.

A little harsh.

More like, if you need to ask this shit, you aren't ready to play out.

Do many EDM DJs keep a large collection of top 40 and hip hop on hand just in case they are asked to play a hip hop/ top 40 gig? I can't imagine collecting music you have no passion for.

Like 500 kids who cream their pants at the rhythm of the latest Soulja Boy tunes will notice any trainwrecks...

But seriously, if you want to DJ don't take gigs where you'll have to play music you don't like, and don't try to "sneak" any EDM. It'll feel like shit when you're asked to change the music.

i would never ever ever play music im not passionate about, that's just me though

Theres a nice mix of ayo technology that someone on this site has done, its in the producers promotion forum.

no they don't keep hiphop music on hand in case they need to play it. Edm djs are edm djs, nothing else.

Yep, but i doubt you could beatmatch that into top 40/hip hop songs so good luck trying to put that in.

but it's a really good track ,everyone should listen to it.

Posted by body125z on Nov-06-2007 15:38:

we should pinned(stick) such threads

Well, even though I don't like this song, Benny Benassi did a very popular remix of Public Enemy the other month.

Yes, in fact. Believe it or not I got Danny Howells to play 'Kiss Kiss' by Chris Brown ft. T-Pain last time he was here.

Posted by the_gamemaster on Nov-06-2007 18:02:

And why would you want to do a thing like that?

Posted by Dilmeet on Nov-06-2007 19:26:

Look I don't mind spinning hip-hop. Why not make some $$$, have some free drinks and meet some girls while spinning, right?

I asked for advice and not flames.

Anyways, I do listen to Hip-Hop because a lot my friends do, so it's always on. Actually, I started DJ'ing because of hip-hop, and I've done many hip-hop house party gigs. I'm the type of person that believes that many people aren't introduced to the right type of dance music. It gets annoying when people call dance music "techno" !!!!

Anyways you guys got a link to the ayo remix song? (by the way this probably my fav top 40 track right now)

how about any of that new electro French stuff? Any electroclash tracks that have a hiphop tune to it?
