"Electro" House... what would you have it called?
A frequent topic of discussion on this board, but I don't think this thread in particular has been done before. If it has, I apologize. I'm sure Nik will straighten me out, he's good with that. =)
We all know that the term "electro house" is a misnomer in that it has no real ties with the genre "electro" whatsoever, and more describes a type of grittier, clubby, buzzy bassline-driven type of house. It is also clear that this type of music is typically noticeably different than, say, progressive house. I typically think of progressive house to be more melodic and airy, though they share some similarities.
I'm just curious to those that bitch about the terminology of this sub-genre, what would you call it then? I agree that electro house is not exactly an appropriate term, but how else would you refer to it?
Unacceptable, predictable answers:
"Shit", "Crappy Music", etc.
"Who cares what genres are called? Listen to what you want to listen to!"
"Farty House"
I'm not trying to discuss the quality of these productions, or how much you like or dislike them, or the pointlessness of genre naming. Just curious as to how you would separate this obviously different sub-genre of music without calling it electro house.
Whoopee-Cushion House.

I'm entirely tempted to make a song / music video using a whoopie cushion and post it up on YouTube now. Thanks, Rob.

Most people who foolishly use the phrase 'electro house' really mean 'tech house.' It's really not all that difficult to comprehend - It doesn't surprise me that so many people on this board fail to though.

What?
Sorry, what I meant was, so-labeled "tech house" productions seem to be more minimalistic, where so-labeled "electro house" productions seem to be more in-your-face and...well, farty. :P
"Minimalistic" describing the productions, not the approach.
Dirty tech-house.

Can't claim credit though. Ministry Of Sound actually came up with it (or at least 'dirty fuck-off house'), to describe their Sessions series way back in late 2005, well before 'electro' house became the de-facto term for it a year later.
Frankly, dirty tech just makes a WHOLE lot more sense.
