Thumbs up Freesound

This is a gem of mines! Used this site more than twice for tunes. From anything like rain drops and traffic ambient moog sounds and sweeps. This has gotta be the best community of sound sharing -- http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/index.php

Definately. It's a great resource.

I've even created some interesting ambient stuff just by looping all the samples in a search result page!

There was/is? an online DAW called splice that allowed you to pull up the clips from the freesound project. (Created by the same guy too, I think)

You can't use any of it for commercial work. Fail.

We need a "reallyfreesound" project.

You can use a sample in a song, and sell the song, and credit the creator if they ask you to.

You can't take the sample and sell it.

"You are free: To sample, mash-up, or otherwise creatively transform this work for commercial or noncommercial purposes."

"You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work)."

Noncommercial purposes means anything you use them in can't be released on a label.

What you can't do is sell a 'verbatim copy', ie. a sample pack of stuff you grabbed off the site. You also cannot use the samples in ads or commercials without permission from the creator of the sample.

Including that sample in another song is a "derivative". Using the samples on freesound for ANYTHING commercial is prohibited, unless otherwise specified by the owner. Ergo, selling a song with that sample in it is against the license.

I think the misunderstanding here is that, on freesound, they are under a specific CC licence referred to as "Sampling Plus".

My quotes above are straight from their website: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/sampling+/1.0/
