Goa Trance, is it dead since MWNN and AP left?

MWNN : Man With No name
AP: Astral pojection

I first heard an goa trance track of astral proejction and got into it really quickly. Start getting all the albums of AP and then people suggested me MWNN and that was really good also.
However this group are kinda old now and I think they're not making any songs anymore. I am still listening to their songs sometime, but I kinda need more even though you just cant get bored of their tracks. I got also other albums of goa trance compilation and stuff but never really liked anything else than AP and MWNN (maybe some track of juno reactor) but thats it. Imo there is a difference between the trance played by MWNN and AP than the one played by other groups. I was a little bit absent from the scene lately and i was asking myself if there was any new groups that appeared in the goa trance domain and which have songs as good as or at least in the same style as AP/MWNN?
thanks!

It seems like you really dug deep into the psy/goa genre at all. There are ALOT of artists out there, that are, imo, much better and more interesting than AP and MWNN. Tell me what other artists you have heard, and what it is that you like about AP/MWNN, and I will do what I can to help you.

It died when X-Dream made Radio.

Theres plenty that sound like Astral Projection-Another world (theres plenty of riff based goa like their earlier albums too... although nothing quite as good)... thats what the newschool goa movement is about. Sure that's quite different to the older stuff but it's still Goa trance (in the way psytrance isn't).

Never really saw anything in mwnn but I've heard he's pretty unique.

TBH they aren't really all that good anyway the best probably are: Transwave and The infinity project.

Goa used to be dead but it's been making a comeback since last year.

If you like newschool goa (sounds similar to AP another world) check these out:
Avigmati
Azriel
Chi AD (has been producing for quite a while now... just never went the psy way)
Cosmis Silence
Cyberion
Dimension 5 (inactive.... first album re released on suntrip records... even though they are newschool they have a very unique and very good sound)
Ediya
E-Mantra
Filteria (one of the other big names)
Goasia (recently released an album on suntrip this month)
Goma
Jikooha
Khetzal (Probably most famous on this list... he's been making newschool since 2002 I think)
Laughting Buddha
Life Extension
Lost Buddha
Merrow
Mindsphere
Mungusid
Nolax
Oktokoppler
Omegahertz
Pleiadians[A.K.A. etnica earlier on] family of light and (some of)I.F.O.
Pralhab
Psynymph
Ra (inactive afaik... last album 2002)
Radical Distortion
Red Gravity
Sattle Battle
Sine Die
Sneila
Space Buddha
Subra
Synsun
Talpa
Tor-Ma
Trold
Vast
VOX (has a free album called innerpolarity that you can download [google it] in either wav or 320kbps mp3)
Yesod
Yspilon 5
and this http://www.psynews.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=48494 mix

The main reason to why you have a difficult time finding contemporary goa trance is because that kind of trance died out in the end of 90s/beginning of 00.
Most of the goa/psy scene went into two directions. Either progressive or full on (such as Astrix, Xerox & Illumination etc).
However there are a few producers that still produce that kind of goa trance you are looking for.
Check out Filteria and Ypsilon 5.
you can find both's CDs at www.psyshop.com
Another such producer I would recommend is Artha. He is fairly new but produce awesome goa trance. Check out his myspace:
http://www.myspace.com/arthapolandpsychedelic

And speaking of Man With No Name. He is still active but doesn't produce much these days. But he actually released two tunes last year which were really nice. They can be found on this compilation:
http://www.discogs.com/release/601851

Astral projection have an album coming out soon called Open Society. Apearantly its supposed to be much more goa-ish than their latest album AMEN. So far I've heard two tunes from it and it sounds really promising.

What's the other one that isn't the prophecy? I quite liked the prophecy. It was quite different to anything else... quite good too.

BTW I don't see why you dislike AP so much skov. It seems you only seem to diss them to try and get people into other stuff. I'll agree they are most definitly incredibly overrated for being slightly different to other stuff and dare I say 5% better then other stuff.

Open Society. It is from 2005.
Also one Astral Projection tune which was released a few years ago but which never got so hyped is Back from Hell. that one is MASSIVE!
If you haven't heard it be sure to check it out.

And speaking of AP. They've done shitloads of good tracks and albums and have been a great influence for many others. However I was not too fond of the AMEN album. Some decent tunes but mostly boring full on stuff which we already have way too much of.

I like Astral Projection, or more.. I like Trust in Trance, and Dancing Galaxy. Everything they have done sound pretty much the same, they haven't changed alot. That's not neccesarily bad, but in this case it is imo. They have done way too much, and it's all pretty much the same. As to goa dying after X-Dream Radio, somewhat true. There was some great stuff up untill around the year 2000. Still comes some good stuff once in a while, but most of them are trying waaay too hard. I don't really listen to much goa anymore, progressive trance/psytrance has taken over, pretty much. Some of my favourite artists at the moment are Cosmosis, Tandu, Eat Static, Moksha. I recently dug out some of their old cd's and listened again. Now I understand why I buy so little new music, there's simply not enough originality anymore. Most of the music I listen to are from 1996ish-2003. The progressive trance is still going quite strong though, alot of good artists out there releasing stuff right now.

Posted by TranceArmstrong on Nov-10-2007 00:57:

the prophecy and open society are both awsome

see, good trance music is still being made

Not really... I mean psytrance/progpsy is much more popular then goa ever was but theres plenty of great goa artists producing atm and it's only going up from here.

Posted by Skov on Nov-10-2007 12:38:

Ofcourse there's still some people producing it, it will never die out completely. But taking your list as an example, most of those artists you wrote there haven't produced for ages or have only a couple of tracks released, most of those tracks are only on internet-based record shops, and consists of mostly half-assed compilations from unknown artists. I don't really know what you mean by newschool, when some of those tracks are from 1997. Sounds more like a cool word to me, so people can prove goa is not dead.

Two words.

Suntrip Records.

i'd love to hear new goa without the Goa Kick. surely i can't be alone here?

Posted by stevo_0 on Nov-10-2007 13:12:

how come no one has mentioned 1200 Micrograms im a big fan of them? enjoy alot of their tracks compilations.

Big fan of MWNN, yet to properly listen to all his cds yet, thou i have them, really enjoyed his EM too.. really pure. brilliant trance.. really helped me understand the difference of trance pre 00 and trance now. LOL their is no comparison, but certainly, made a distinct difference for me

Got the shits the other day, was playing a MWNN cd, and my boss came in and changed it to a matchbox 20 cd that his gf gave him...

because they are the cheesiest you can find within psytrance.

Posted by Magadansky on Nov-10-2007 18:08:

To answer the question of the thread starter imo MFG's first two albums (Prophecy and New Kind of World, except some tracks) sound close to the AP sound. Same space fluffy stuff AP are most popular with.

And new goa producers can be find on Suntrip Records as some guys already mentioned. Also check this compilation. It's made for free download:
Click It has some nice tracks there.

Not any numbered compilations that I can think of... but label comps are good.

Vox liveset (radio shizoid)

It was made to showcase his labels stuff and theres some really nice tunes on there. Unfortunately I don't know what the tracklist is so you might need to search the web for it or hopefully someone here knows.
