Ibiza council bans after-hours parties

Ibiza-Voice.com recently reported that Ibizas governing council are to ban after-hours clubs on the party island.

The draconian measures although Ibiza-wide, will in reality only affect three clubs - Space, DC10 and Bora Bora - as the area of San Josep is the only district in Ibiza that allows after-hours clubs.

In the islands main newspaper Diario de Ibiza, a front-page lead story included aggressive quotes from the Consell president Xico Tarres, and Josep Mari Ribas, mayor of Sant Josep.

Tarres said after-hours clubs, attract a lower quality of tourist and cause more problems than benefits.

Whilst mayor Ribas said after-hours clubs are: "totally undesirable we dont like them at all.

The new laws will now mandate 12 noon opening times for clubs as opposed to the current 8am licensing laws.

This means DC10 and Space will no longer be open in mornings.

Its unclear if Bora Bora is viewed as an after-hours venue, but considering that the beach-front bar has been continually targeted by police and the council in recent years, its doubtful whether Bora Bora will be allowed to open for business next summer.

Rather ironically, Diario de Ibiza recently reported on the proliferation of illegal parties this past summer.

Ibiza-Voice.com responded: The very same government officials who are keen to stamp out the well-regulated and fiercely patrolled menace of after-hours discos are fretting at the fact that holiday makers are increasingly turning to throwing bashes in the countryside, villas, or at restaurants.

None of this should come as a surprise to anyone with a rudimentary grasp of cause and effect.

People come to Ibiza to party if they cant go to a club theyll simply turn up the tunes, break out a few bottles and carry on wherever they are.

The new laws banning after-hours parties will come as no surprise to Ibizas regulars.

This summer DC10 and Bora Bora were shut down by police over drug and security allegations.

Free parties such as Mulletover and Cocoons afterparty were also targeted.

So basically all this means is that people will have to sleep between 8am and noon instead of partying right through.

Or they can party elsewhere in the meantime and do it themselves personally.

LOL @ "attracting a lower quality of tourist"

P. Diddy is quality.

so wait, they are afraid of people partying in villas and homes. So what are they proposing? Taking away places to party that are not villas and homes. Makes sense to me!

+1

We didn't head to either Space, Bora Bora, or DC10 until after 12PM anyway.

Your logic has always been too good for the real world.

good. i dont care if ibiza crumbles. im against the scene being so centralized. although ibiza is beneficial because it does lead the industry and music.

its kind of a huge deal when all the clubs close between 5 and 6am as is. I mean, this isn't an issue of going to go grab a sandwich from Whips and then heading back to the club.

Honestly, partying that long is too hard on the body anyways. Everyone will benefit from a bit of a rest, heh. Get over it.

If they only go as far as this: keeping clubs closed between 8am-12pm, it's not that big of a deal IMO. The problem is, after all the shut downs last summer, and the current rhetoric coming from the Ibiza council, many are saying next summer will see many more shutdowns, this time permanent (DC10 and Bora Bora being prime candidates).

If Bora Bora and DC10 get shut down, that would pretty much take away any desire I have of going back to Ibiza. Besides a few moments at We Love Space, DC10 and Bora Bora were the only two places that I really enjoyed. In my opinion, Ibiza is just an overhyped, grossly overpriced island that wouldn't really be worth going to for me if those 2 places closed.

specially to where the location of the clubs are - there really isn't any place around the clubs there to hang out at...

I agree with everything, but I will say there is a lot of other things Ibiza has going for it. The clubs are overhyped, over priced, but the rest of the island had a lot of stuff going for it.

Although without Bora Bora and DC10 - I doubt I would be going back either.

yes and no. there is a vibe on the island that I haven't experienced anywhere (mind you, my clubbing has been limited to N.A, Western Europe and I'm sure there are places that have an amazing vibe...some that are even as good or better...but none of them are the same and for some of us...not near as magical (i mean that in the most non-hocusy-pocusy, earth nature shit way possible)

Don't get me wrong, I had an amazing time in Ibiza. The vibe there is incredible. However, I don't see why I should spend up to 60EUR on cover and 12EUR for a Budweiser when I can go to other parties that have just as much of an amazing vibe. For exmaple (besides DC-10 and Bora Bora), I Love Techno had a better vibe than any party I went to in the week I was in Ibiza, was much cheaper, and you got way more value for your money.

All I'm saying is that without Bora Bora and DC-10 (which ironically are the cheapest things you can do on the island), Ibiza can't really justify it's price tag.

Lol....When I went to Ibiza this year I didn't even bother going to any of those clubs. As long as Eden and Amnesia are untouched then I am happy
