Trance Like This?

I'm in search of some other great trance songs from artists like Armin van Buuren that have synth that takes you on a trip.

I don't know how to describe that type of trance. I'm not looking for too much beat taking over the synth, but great synth that flows and make you think deeply about life. Anyone here know a few songs off the top of their head? This is a really broad question, I know. An example would be the Armin van Buuren current podcast in iTunes, that type of trance. Ayla is great. Any other artists I should look into? I used to listen to trance a ton about 2-3 years, but haven't much since then. I need to get back into the scene. What other artists, since I like this style of trance, should I look into?

Re: Trance Like This?

The synth in 'Sail' makes me think deeply about ending my life.

If anything gets me deeply think about my life, it's definitely kind of trance you described....NOT

Too broad a question, I know see.

So, I'll suggest that area, synth almost exactly like van Buuren - Communication

Perry O'Neil is almost exactly the kind of synth stuff I'm looking for.

Anyone else? van Buuren has to have some sweet trance songs that I don't know about just yet.

There's no shortage of jaded bastards on this site.
Ignore them, but also keep the foll. in mind before you post:

Try to be more specific about what you want, not just some vague description about what kind of synth sound you like and what feelings it evokes.

Anyways, you're probably looking for pretty much uplifting & euphoric so there's plenty for you to check out.

Best is to look at tracklistings, you can check out ASOT tracklistings from back in '01 - '02 on Armin's website. Try and find those tracks on Beatport / Audiojelly etc.

Ego-stroking monstrosities are indeed jumping around this forum. Being new, you should probably have a rude awakening to the kind of trance fans that exist here. They have much experience, yes, they have a large repritore of listening veteran-ship. They have grown weary and cynical about the EDM scene for several reasons, some are valid if you listen carefully and they take the time to explain themselves.

Trance comes in all shapes and sizes. Euphoric/uplifting/epic/progressive is what you are shooting for from your first post. I personally enjoy uplifting trance, but am somwehat picky about it, due to it's bloated commercialization and appeal to too many artists who do nothing but copy off each other's success, sounds, and motifs -- then it becomes genre evolution according to the lowest denominator. Some of Ferry Corstens (System F), some Tiesto, some Paul Van Dyk, some BT, some Paul Oakenfield to mention a few are big name DJs in the field according to mass public acclaim. I encourage you to branch out as much as possible in order to maintain a bird's eye view in the EDM scene to determine your musical tastes.

Check out Ishkur's guide to electronic music here: http://techno.org/electronic-music-guide/ . And do not take it as an academic cruise, but a biased one that is cynical and designed to be humorous first...

Branch out too... not just to appease the folks at TA, but for your own good. There is so much good music in the world to experience that is outside the trance genre.

Good luck...

Not trance, I'm sorry to say, but it will completely take you on a trip...and the build/drop will fuck with your brain.
