Is this a movie or a series, like Sex and the City???

Posted by Devbert on Apr-29-2002 03:31:

It's about this regular guy in California who goes through a midlife crisis, starts popping E like crazy, going to raves (even though he's 40), doing drugs with his kids, and eventually getting arrested.

I thought that Dish Network was like DirecTV but, is another Satellite TV service that gives you EVERYTHING!

[RANT]
great.. so this is another cool series which will show american how 'BAD' raves and electronic music is.. great.. i love american television..

you know that this will certainly make all the puritan idiots out there think that they need to protect their kids from the 'devils music' which trance is, since everybody who like electronic music will drop pills 24/7 and go down socially/ academically/ financially...

whohoo...
let's see if this cannot spurr (sp?) (ignite/ start off) another round of personal freedom decreasing laws that can be used against anyone and everyone... GREAT

thanks HBO

[/rant]

ps.: i have not watched this, but i can imagine the whole idea behind this movie/ series/ whatever and, knowing america, i can already see the bad publicity caused, since TV never lies...

Drizz, I'm sorry dude, but I watched the thing, and your totally off base.

Well it does show drugs in a negative light, me being 17 definetly saw it was reflective of teen culture. Seriously, some of the people in it were my good friends, sounded and acted identical.

What it did show was that this guy was a good guy, a nice guy, a loving father, and he let his love of experimentation get out of hand.

40 years old, never even drinken before, and the past 6 months he'd been on a trip, drinking, smoking, dropping, and eventually talking LSD and Acid.

Of course, all the meanwhile they show that he pays his taxes, goes to work on time, and really cares about his kids.

But he does some fucked up shit, like intentionally leave 20 bucks on the table so his 13 year old son and 15 year old daughter can buy a pill if they want. And they take it and get fucked up.

And it's not that he's a bad guy, it's just not an element he should bring his children into.

You should watch it. I don't take E, but it reminded me what can happen to you if you smoke or drink to much, and it lets you reflect.

However, the end was very biased towards the importance of getting off drugs.

The irony was that the son who had come back from the military to convince his brothers/sisters/father to get off drugs ended up getting arrested for stealing a firearm, and is serving an 8 month jail sentence. Just goes to show you that the non-druggies fuck shit up to.

thanks for letting me know..

I do not have television, nor do i plan to pay for it anytime in the near future.. sorry, US-TV isn't my thing...

i am sorry that i came across the thing so harsh, but I had expected something that way...(can u tell my impression of TV is kina low?)

anyhow.. sorry about it..

Posted by Devbert on Apr-29-2002 07:46:

I never watch TV, except the Simpsons and Family Guy, that sort of thing.

I only watch movies.

I don't consider HBO or stuff like that to be TV. They usually produce the best shows (Oz, Sopranos, Six Feet Under...I'll forgive them for blunders like Arli$$ and Sex in the City), and can give unbiased views of subjects.

Also, movies kick the shit out of TV shows.

I've seen alot of old people at house parties and raves that roll and have all the kandy and binkies on. They party with the young people like it ain't nothin'.
I also know this girl that brings her mom to all the parties she goes to. With kandy too.

Ecstasy is still around? I thought that died in the 90's. It's all bullshit now anyways, and these TV shows are like 5 years behind the drug crazes anyways. Watch, next year they'll be talking about GHB or something.

Maybe the scene is a little different here is St. Louis but if I saw a 40 year old guy at a rave I'd be a little worried. Just a little......

Posted by u4ea:[soulstar] on Apr-30-2002 09:16:

Either way, Drizzt's blind assumptions about the show does merit a slanted truth in DEA country. The stigmatism of Raves and drugs go together like married couples in media industry, politics, and religion. When I meant slatned, its the way HBO wanted to portray the sub-culture at extreme stereotypes, it'll get bastadized, sliced and diced for self-serving anti-drug propagandists.

Yikes, you need to get out more =P Ecstasy has grown in popularity SO much since I first got exposed to it in the late 90s. It used to be something you'd only really see people doing at raves and dance clubs, now you see it done at pretty much every party of any genre.

The Vancouver scene is notorious for old asians at raves on E. I once partied with a 45 year old woman and her 14 year old daughter

INVADING MY TERRITORY wtf is going on ? they have to be aliens, they are seeing what these dance festivals are.. or maybe its really my mother, spying on me to see whether or not i am doing the right thing, and God has diguised her ? It freaks me out though, whenever I bump into someone 40+... it's like AHHH !, sorry, excuse me ma'am.. being all formal as if it wasnt a party.. hahahah its funny.
