Psytrance Recommendations

In the process of broadening my trance collection I am interested in finding some good Psy-trance artists. Can anyone give some good recommendations?

I dig Vibrasphere. Kind of a good bridge between the two genres.

+1... the album that started psytrance.
http://www.discogs.com/release/15412
Haven't heard this album but transwaves productions are all very very good. Another +1
http://www.discogs.com/release/667149
I probably wouldn't recomend... theres a lot of tech trance in there. While Goa trance may be close to psytrance... well I wouldn't say goa tech is. If you like techno (or looking to get into) then I'd recomend.
http://www.discogs.com/release/204324
Again haven't heard this album... but along with transwave, the infinity project are perhaps the best producers of the goa genre

Since we're also recomending Goa trance (from which psytrance originated) I'd recomend http://www.discogs.com/release/143500
and http://www.discogs.com/release/994058 as well.

Best artists in psytrance/progpsy genre: Infected mushroom, Xerox and Illumination, Electric Universe, Tegma, Talamasca, Etic, Protoculture and Son kite.

I also recomend Simon Posferds projects(I'm sure theres more but heres some good ones): Shpongle, Celtic Cross and Younger brother

Probably plenty more that are great but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

Why do you always try to sound like some sort of self-proclaimed expert on psytrance? Most of the times you come off as quite clueless.

You just said that they are one of the best in the Psy-trance genre and being that Psy is my personal favorite EDM genre and my specialty, it's like you're spitting on my face. I wouldn't even consider them in the top 10, they had a couple of great tracks , but way too many shit releases to even consider placing them so high.

I count Vicous Delicous album and a couple of eps. Converting vegetarians had some average tracks but it also had some excellent tracks. Apart from that I can't see how you can fault them. Their flow through (sorted) randomness is only beaten by few projects like for example shpongle.

Spitting on your face my ass

Pick up Domestic - Art Making Machine.

Highlight for me is track 7, Non Human.

their first two albums are decent. Nothing spectacular but decent. The rest of their albums are either meh or really shitty.
So no I wouldn't call them one of the best psy acts. And definetly not recommend them to someone new in the genre. I know people hype them because they are big and tour alot and also because they are crossover between psy and rock. But that doesn't even make them the slightest better IMO.

^ I dont think Infecteds old albums should be dismissed as easily.
The Gathering and Classical Mushroom are.. well, classics of the genre.

With their newer ones they've taken their sound away from 'traditional' psy, and left us with an internet full of jaded forum posters.

Protoculture was already mentioned above, he is the bomb.

S.U.N Project is an act I've always enjoyed. Love those guitar riffs!

Talpa's album "The art of being non" is fantastic. Buy it now.

I may as will pimp my countrymen while I'm here:

Mr Peculiar - "Mind Dala" is my favourite full on album of this century. I'm biased because I also have a man-crush on him.

Sun Control Species - "Science Nuova" is prety prog-tastic. And by that I mean really proggy.

If you like it hard and cheesy, you can pick up an album or comp from Skazi or 1200 micrograms. I know some will frown on me for suggesting these, as they are regarded by alot of chinstrokers as rubbish, but hey, gotta start somewhere. Fun to dance to.

Exaile, Psychotic Micro, Sun Project, Neuromotor, Dark Nebula, Xerox & Illumination I've always enjoyed listening too and fairly consistently good. My current favourite I suppose would be Dark Soho. Their Sun Spot and the Combustion albums where quite good, I guess they get lumped into 'prog'
