Go here: http://www.tranceaddict.com/forum/s...2&forumid=48&s=

It's the Music Production FAQ near the top of the Production Studio section.

Read question 8.

Everyone here wants you to read, in their entirety, the Music Production FAQ and the Tutorial Master List. Both are 'stickied' posts in this section.

before someone flames you lol

Reason (good start for n00bs,i think you are one actually 70% of us are, no vst support)
Ableton (easy to use program, kills ur cpu but makes almost everything you will need it these days)
Pro Tools (NONONONO not for production but for audio engineering)
Q base (Dont know)
Sound Forge (wave editor)
Acid (Dont know , heard its good)

man read the FAQ it will take time but you will gain enough knowledge to not answer this q again

Also don't forget to take a look at FL Studio.

Maybe he wants to write his stuff in QBasic.

BEEP
ELSE
PRINT "Nevermind I'm just joking, anyway."
BEEP
END IF

Logic Express if you're on a Mac. This is the best way to go because it is user friendly and is an industry standard at the same time. It features a powerful midi sequencer and an audio sequencer that rivals Pro Tools. Also, Apple just introduced the new version 8.

Reason is cool, but like someone already said, no VST support. (VST are 3rd party plug-ins such as virtual synths, drum machines, compressors, EQs and etc.) Reason can also be a pain to use at times.

I suggest using Fruity Loops Studio if you're on a Windows platform. It is a midi sequencer with VST support. Its user friendly and is not expensive if you're actually going to purchase it. Everyone pretty much used this at one point.

Or which trance producer is best. That wouldn't cause much discussion.

To respond to the original question - grab demos of all the ones you can and see which one feels best for you personally. We don't know what's going on in your head, we have no idea which one is best for you. If the cheapest one you find seems okay, start with the cheapest and produce using that for the first year or so. That way you'll find out whether you'll have the patience and perseverance for music production.

Agreed

I mean FFS: http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...5&forumid=48&s=

A bit dated but still enough.

Cubasis? http://www.kvraudio.com/get/293.html

Are people really this blind or just ol' fashioned lazy? Somehow the stickies need to be placed ABOVE the 'new thread' button. With the search in between them. Ah well, keep dreaming.

Yeah it really is a matter of opinion, all the hype I'd heard about logic I thought it was going to be incredible. Then I actually used it and it's so poor it makes me want to bang my head against my keyboard repeatedly.

There's basically the big 2, logic on a mac and cubase on a pc. Software like FL studio is good for knocking out loops, getting ideas down and writing melodies, but the audio editing capabilities are limited.

We already established that ejay is the ultimate software for the making of the euro dance music on the mainframez.

Posted by farris on Nov-18-2007 18:20:

I suggest you give it a try. Might work, but to be honest don't see why you'd want to use other than just a quick look.
