Beowulf - Movie - SPOILERS

So I went to go see this at the theater last night. I know it is based off of a very old mythological story, however, the movie has strayed enough from the original tale that I am a little lost.

Ok...

so Grendal is Jolie's son.
Grendal is what? A decaying human? A dragon that is in human form? WTF?

Jolie has unsuspecting men give her children - those children are dragons. The dragons can only be killed by the soft spot. For some reason, a dragon is also a human, or can be turned into a human?

Jolie's deals with the men make them immortal... Given how long she has lived, I assume she is also immortal. Does this mean that Grendal was immortal, and could not be killed unless one of his limbs was removed? Was he a dragon at some point?

I think there was a part in the movie that they tell the "tale" of the dragons, or something... and I may have been tuning out at this point, so perhaps I missed it, but can anyone reiterate?

Is this based on Michael Crichton's 'Eaters of the Dead' ?

Yeah, Crichton's book was based on an original manuscript as well. Just wondered if he was involved in the making of the film.

Beowulf does die, both in the old versions, and the modern ones.

I dunno, I thought it was a pretty good movie.

The graphics were not perfect, but pretty good. The storyline was good for the most part, aside from some of the parts I wasn't entirely clear on.

Beowolf defeated Grendel and his mother. He later died with his fight with the fire dragon.
