Angry Recently, what objects you’ve hit on the highways?

This year, I’ve noticed a lot of dangerous debris is on our highways. I’ve hit and missed a lot of dangerous objects.

1) Rusted metal debris – Hit (401 Express Lane & DVP)
I swerved to right and avoided that object from hitting my tires. It nailed my mud flap on the front bumper.

2) LARGE cargo – Missed (DVP South)
The cargo feel off and landed on the left lane of the DVP, I assume it happened 20 secs before I got to that area.

3) Floating Bag – Hit (DVP South)
Hit some floating bag and turns out it had some paint in it. Got off the highway and cleaned it off right away.

4) LARGE BUMPER – Missed (401 Express Lane West & DVP)
I assume it was from a dealership convoy truck that was transporting a full shipment of cars, since he was pulled to the side for an emergency stop. It was his bumper or one of the car’s bumpers, it was large and lucky for me, and I’ve avoided it, since the civic in front nailed it and dodged it.

5) MID-SIZE CARGO - Missed (401 Express Lane West & DVP)
Right behind a small truck, I was one lane left of him. He had some mid-size cargo that was not secured properly and fell off, I floored it and honked the shit out of him and gave him finger.

Anyone wants to share any hit and missed objects from our highways?

i was driving on the dvp northbound one night and saw a rear bumper in the middle of the highway. i avoided it and about 200 metres down the road i saw an intrepid parked on the shoulder. the driver was kicking and punching the shit out of his car cuz its bumper fell off. lol.

I don't like when there are animals on the road, especially deer or moose.

I hate it when you have dead hookers sometimes stuck to your muffler...

So whats the lesson of the story? Avoid the DVP?

Posted by DigDeep on Nov-19-2007 17:08:

1.) a guardrail. (side swiped by some paranoid bitch who thought a transport truck was swirving into her lane)

2.) a cat. wtf are you doing on the highway!?!

3.) a bag of shit. (literally, a bag of shit)

LMAO!

just dodged a softball sized rock that fell out of a truck and bounced up to windshield level on the 407... it was scary as hell, the thing basically bounced like a football, couldn't predict its movement

missed pieces of tires ripped off transport trucks a few times but that's fairly commonplace.

I've never actually HIT anything (knock on wood)

I've hit several turtles, and ran over an aligator's tail in Florida. (not recently)

HIT:
I-490 near Pittsford NY
A large loveseat/sm. sofa big poofie thingies. Fell off a pickup truck loaded like something out of Sanford-n-Son, secured with yellow plasitc rope.

VEHICLE:
26' Freightliner straight truck

RESULT:
Unable to avoid collision, sent loveseat flying, looked like rubber foam explosion and I ran over what was left with one set of rear dual wheels. Damaged front grille.

AFTERMATH:
The guy was pissed at ME for hitting his chair, and wanted me to pay for it! Almost turned into a fight, until a trooper arrived.

State police gave him a ticket for "unsecured load" and some other weight fine.

I was driving north on the DVP, just passed Steeles when that stretch was under construction over the summer. Was in the leftmost lane and the idiot in front of me veered off towards the median and kicked up a cloud debris. I couldn't switch lanes so all I could do was slow down but my car still took a beating. I can still see a bunch of scratch marks all over the front of the car whenever I wash it.

Highways have been good to me - outside of a stone chip from a truck that left a nice crack in my windshield I haven't had the bad luck some of you have had. (knock on wood)

However, a few years ago while driving north on Dufferin this late 70s beater of a car was coming southbound and I saw its hubcap wobbling like mad. Would you believe the thing came off and rolled across and lodged into the lower grille of my bumper like a fucking ninja star? I pulled over after and yanked it out since the bottom part was scraping the ground as I drove. lol, the ppl at the bus stop got a kick out of that.

I think I recall a TA posting a pic of a large bird stuck in their grille while back.

For me, I've missed a wood plank on Hwy 7 and garbage bags/styrofoam/tire pieces/metal on the 401. Luckily haven't hit anything yet.

we ran over a piece of a car - dude took a sharp turn and collided with the wall, sending pieces of plastic everywhere
Mike was worried that we could have damaged the tire, but I think it was ok in the end

yep, it was beginning of november, very light snow was falling but melting, entrance to the 400south off of finch, and an integra had took the ramp too fast, spun into the wall, sending all sorts of shit everywhere, im pretty sure i collected a Big ass electrical harness with my RF tyre, and possibly some other debris all of which were unavoidable.
