Can personally attest this is a pretty decent very large-screen rear projection TV.

But if it can be done and you have a little money, I suggest you get it professionally calibrated. It can make a world of different on rear-projection HDTVs!

Amazing how this TV would cost thousands of dollars when it first came out just a couple years ago and no matter how good of condition it's in, you have to sell it for such a low price if you want to move it.

BTW, can personally attest that if you can deal with rear-projection DLP, this is a real good TV if you want a super large screen. Know some people who will deal with slightly lower clarity if it means a larger screen.

I was trained to Semi-Pro calibrate and ya it made a big difference.

Funny thing is this TV had an original MSRP of $5099 when it was first released.

This Friday Circuit City will have it's 65" successor for sale at $1499, which is an amazing price.

I loved this unit, had no complaints.

I just got a Sony KDS60A3000 SXRD at Frys last wkd for $1599! Looks unbelievable with the PS3 and Blu-Ray. So glad I went this way, lost 2" but gained so much!

In closing, I think I just made a deal with my sister to take it.

I'll be calling you Robert for some calibrating when I finally decide on a new TV.... but first, I need to find someone to put my component & TV stands together! I've had those damn things in the box for almost 1 yr.

haha..

I am THX Certified Level II Technician. I can calibrate your whole system, really important to get the original effect intended by the director.

Got HD-DVD too.. PS3 = free blu-ray

Blu-Ray is way better from a user standpoint. HD-DVD has a lot of problems loading and stopping during the movie, takes over 1 minute to load. The PS3 pretty much loads instantly and the picture is better as well as the sound.

About the picture / sound... it really depends on the studio. At WB, we re-use the same compression for both formats... so for example the movie '300' on HD and BD are quality wise are exactly the same. the HD has more cool features because none of the BD Java programming works right.

yes, the earlier generations of HD players were a tad sluggish.

sorry to hijack your thread. I need a huge ass TV ASAP~!

Well with Blu-Ray you have the ALOT of movies that are in uncompressed audio. So for the most part most of the Blu-ray movies I watch have a much better sound quality. When you have a uncompressed PCM audio at anywhere from 4.6 to 6.9 MBps, its noticeably alot better than the Dolby Digital Plus that isn't even a 1Mbps, yeah there are some Dolby TrueHD with HD-DVD, but for me the uncompressed PCM still sounds better.

But still even now, the best HD-DVD player still take a minimum of 30-45 seconds to load each disc. And almost every single Combo HD-DVD/DVD disc has failed at some point in the movie with everyone that I know, on a range of different players.

Overall I will say that almost all the HD-DVD picture look the same and they are very good. But the best Blu-Rays look better. Could just be the PS3 handles the Video better.

I personally dont give a hoot for all the extra features and what not. I just want the movie the way the director intended it, with the best possible sound. On the other hand, my dad loves all the extra features.

For me I would prefer blu-ray to take the win, but either way I don't care cause I can watch both. I have had Zero issues with Blu-Ray and about 30% of all the HD-DVD's have problems. Alot of stuttering during playback, movies just stopping dead, extremely long load times.

I don't see any clear winner, but I can tell you with Blockbuster backing Blu-ray, they have a huge advantage from that alone.

How loud are the PS3 players?

I have not played with one yet (I had a PS2) but my Xbox is quite loud. I have the HD-DVD player plug in and have had no problems. Movie selection is limited but watched "Transformers" via Netflix last weekend and it was great.

Reason why I ask is because I want to put a "system" of sorts in the bedroom and am thinking of a PS3 as the DVD player. That way I can have the gaming unit/DVD player duo. Since the room is not very large if the PS3 has a loud sound it may not be the best option.

What would be nice is to have some kind of switching unit where I can have access to the Xbox/PS3*Blueray/HD-DVD in both rooms even though the components are located in seperate locations (but close).

Technology is so much fun.

I sit 8 ft from my PS3 and I barely even hear it, and its on a open pedestal. It's really important to give it good airflow. It's nothing like the 360 for noise.

Bull, but if you are paying a higher price for a blu-ray the shit better be better which its not. The only thing that makes blu-ray special is the larger storage capacity(something that can be fixed by triple layering HDDVD discs and its still less expensive). The first HD DVD players had loading issues that were fixed by firmware updates as was the PS3 which wouldn't play properly on older 1080i models, everything would default to 480p if you didn't have 720p. I have both and its the same damn thing, which makes you wonder why in the hell people have to pay an average cost of $10 more for blu-ray discs.

Besides that, you upgrading to 1080p? The new decoders for actual Dolby Digital True HD and DTS HD are here this month, not sure on release dates.

I have had a Receiver that decodes all the formats for over 6months now,
On the other hand I don't buy any movies. I rent them, and for me they are all the same price. $17.99 a month

My Toshiba HD-DVD still has load time issues. And the HD-DVD's are alot more finicky with scratches.

Why are people paying $10 more per Blu Ray title. They are almost always dead locked the same pricing.. Averaging $24.99 per movie, from either side. Maybe you are buying them from the wrong place. For the last 4 weeks, someone has had a buy 1 get 1 free, on both HD and Bluray, there is always a deal... Use Amazon!
