Exclamation

Whats everyones opinion on raves and drugs?
I have never had anything at a rave, but it seems like everyone else is woo woo, if you know what i mean? Is it really neccessary, to be all drugged up to have a good time? I dunno maybe it is just were I live, cause all the ravers, go to get completely trashed, and not for the music ... they couldnt tell you 1 name of a song (no matter what genre of electronic music mind you), besides alice deejay, they just go get drugged up, come to school and brag about how wasted they got? To me it seems kinda pointless I am really interested in everyone else opinion of this subject, and if it makes a party better or not in their oppinion

As long as people are educated on what they are taking, and can handle their drugs (ie. not be a puddle on the floor the whole night), it is fine with me. Also, drugs shouldn't be the reason for ppl to go to parties, but only the means to experience the party in a different state of mind. I mean, drugs have been a part of rave culture ever since it started, so it is pointless to try and preach how everybody should go sober all the time. But if you *need* drugs in order to have a good time, you should better take a look at your life and maybe stop going ...

As long as they give some to me I'm cool with it

Hehe seriously though, just like skywarp said, as long as they know what they're doing and dont die in the middle of the dance floor (or anywhere else for that matter) it's okay. Going to a party only for drugs is pointless... one rave I went to I was far too messed to really pay any attention to the music or anything, I mean I had a great time but after I left I couldn't remember half of the night (and was sketchy for a couple days :/ ). But there's nothin wrong with making a good time better with drugs if yer responsible.

I try Not to Put the Both together!
I'm A Drug User!
I guess I'm a raver (Well use to be)
but I usally don't do drugs at raves

GO FIGURE!

yep.. everyone's view on this is one and the same. Do what you want, as long as you know what you're getting into, and don't ruin anybody's time. Anything else would be all too hypocritical (yes I get sauced up too ).
Just one last thing though, try not to turn parties into crackhouse with music pleeeease. Get the priority straight

Posted by ManHunter on Dec-04-2000 08:44:

I've done lots of raves, and never had to take shit to enjoy it. I can really get into a trance just listening to the music (isn't it why it's called trance?). And I do mind when I see people completely out of it trying to stay on their feet by grabbing the wall. what the fuck where they thinking?

Oakenfold's party here in Edmonton was actually terminated early because of some fuckheads that took too much shit and ended up having seizures on the dance floor. They killed the party for the whole 4000 people there. And not just any party, the Paul Oakenfold party!

So unfortunately, now my opinion is: screw all these morons that need to be high to have fun. Stay home.

I feel a flame war coming.

manhunter, first of all get your facts straight: Ascension (Oakenfold in Edmonton) was cut short one hour, AFTER Mr. Oakenfold finished his (mediocre) set because six people had seizures. Now, the seizures were epileptic and not drug-related. In fact, I KNOW that at least four out of the six people who passed out were sober. The strobes in that room were way too intense for the size of the room, and if you happened to be up front with the lights blasting in your face you too might have been carried out on a stretcher with an epileptic seizure. So don't blame drugs for everything.
And even if they WERE drugged up, one hour less partying is nothing compared with five hours waiting in the line to get in just because certain promoters (cough cough) weren't able to organize proper entry procedures adequate for 4000 people.

I already said everything that I wanted to say on this topic in the post above, do whatever you wish, as long as you can handle it.

peace

Angry

Yap, I think it's ok if someone uses E or whatever to get good vibes as long as he/she can handle it. Anyway, it's a known fact that even E causes permanent brain damage, but preaching doesn't work much; it's your own choice. Nevertheless, what troubles me (John Cage ) is the fact that some DJs have started to get really wasted on gigs. I mean, it's not very nice to hear a fucking lousy and badly mixed set coz the man behind the wheel is floating in some entirely different plane of existence. Awww.

Thumbs down

I agree than Oakenfold's set was not up to his standard at Ascension. I also agree that waiting in line 4 hours was completely ridiculous, and took out much of the vibe (for me and my friends, anyway).

But none of this makes it ok to waste a party for somebody else (or everybody else) because you were too high.

It is still under debate if these people had seizures drug related or not.

And just like mindbender said, more and more studies show that E permanently affects the brain. But it won't stop people from musing it, just like people are still smoking.

Anyway, my conclusion is this: If you choose to do drugs at a rave and don't bother people around you, cool. If you get stupid and do too much, go home and die. I have no respect for these people because they have no respect for me.

I may sound harsh, but hey, I'm really not that bad.

Now, I don't have a lot of experience using MDMA, but from what I've heard, information is the key, the manufacturing process of X allows for big time error. Thats why many times you get e with lsd, coke, or opiates. By itself, in a pure form, e is not that dangerous, besides dehydration and heat stroke caused by too much dancing. Brain damage is possible, but most likely from poly-drug use.
.peAce.

Posted by Morbius on Dec-05-2000 01:46:

OK, it's pretty much established that MDMA causes brain damage... but IIRC its preventable by taking lotsa anti-oxidants (vitamin c) replenishing seratonin afterwards (taking 5-HTP) and/or takin prozak (hoesntly :P) Don't quote me on that though... I read it on a link in www.dancesafe.com (I think that was the site at least. Leave me alone, its a monday )

Anyways, LSD is ALOT harder to produce than MDMA, there is no way someone could accidently make it when trying to make MDMA. However MDMA itself is difficult to make, so dealers put other shit in pills 'cuz its cheaper... you could be takin anything from DXM (cough syrup) to caffiene, ephidrine, meth, PCP, ketamine, PMA (VERY dangerous stimulant/hallucinogen, caused a few deaths), but very likely not coke or herion because it'd raise the price to the dealer

Well thats my $.02.....
oh yah, one more thing. I don't agree when people say "well if you go to raves and get fucked up then you're there for drugs not music." They just make the music/experience better fer some people.... just like phat speakers will allow people to enjoy the music alot more than standard computer speakers will :P

What about these dweebs that are so high they don't even remember the night?

I've seen a guy hugging a steel fence trying to stay on his feet while I was waiting in line to get in around 11pm. When I came out between 5 and 6am, he was still outside, exactly in the same spot. This may be an extreme example, but how much more dumb can you get?

I think that people just need to be careful about what they take and have to take the necessary precautions if they want to take drugs...i have done E, among other things...but i don't go for the drugs i go for the music...i never ever would have went to a rave if it wasn't for the music namely trance...i think it is stupid for people to get so drugged up that they don't even remember the night and then pass out in the middle of the floor ( btw my biggest rave pet peeve)...if you're not dancing don't sit your ass down on the floor in the middle of the room...its because of this that raves are given a bad name especially in the US. Cities are starting to crack down on raves because certain people are overdosing their assing into a hospital and people are like oooh raves...their so bad...you meant drugged out people and you'll get molested or something...which is not the case...for those of you who live in CA...i go to college there and in Socal they got rid of one of the best venues in Socal because the city no longer wanted to be a raver city and made it so that no events could be held past 2:00...it majorly bites...promoters have to move venues farther and farther away...i think people need to get their act together...if you do drugs do them responsible and also realize that the reason you are going to the rave is not for the drugs...if you are then find someone that is dealing outside and leave because you're ruining the vibe and that your #1 reason for being there is the music....PLUR

ManHunter: Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear enough there... what I meant to say is that if you take a REASONABLE amount of drugs to enjoy the party more thats fine. Dropping a cap of e so you can dance more, have a good time, whatever... thats it. If you get so fucked up that you cant stand up, you dont remember a damn thing from the night, and you're ruining the experience for anyone else.... well I definitely can't defend that.

BTW anyone ever listened to goa/psytrance on shrooms? Mmmmmmmm.....

You don't need drugs to have a good time at a rave. With all the positive energy going around you can sometimes get high on exitement. When you hear your favorite beat at a rave you get crazy, if your doped up you dont evan care!
