Talking best mixing software for complete newbie

Hoi!

I need your advice on this one. Check it out.. I'm doing a liveshow next weekend with my music and this *liveshow* is actualyl going to be playback. It's not my fault but that's the way it is, anywayz, I only got like 5mins to perform (what fucking liveshow gives the performer 5 mins to perform?? .. hehe.. I'll tell you later). Anywayz, most of my trance tracks I'm going to perform last more than 5 mins and I'd really like to perform 2-3 tracks. This means I have to some kind of mixing between the tracks and I was thinking of doing almost like a dj set and play ca 2 mins of each track. It may sound stupid but remember I only got 5 mins.. don't flame me for this, ok?

So, I need a software to do this mixing. I'd really like it to sound more or less decent. I've done a little mixing in the past on Virtual Turntable and some MJ software but I really didn't get any good results with it. Do you know a software with almost automatic mixing capabilities that almost sounds decent?

Remember, I'm not a dj, I'm just going to perform my stuff in 5 mins.. thanks in advance. Cheers! Respek! Whocazha!

hmmm

I suppose you could use either Traktor DJ Studio or BPM Studio. I've been using Traktor for quite a while now, and you can decide whether you want to make it easy or hard. You could just play the first song, match the BPM with the = sign on the second deck, and Right click sync.

-----------------------------------------------------

Ok now heres the long explanation for Traktor (You will need 2 soundcards or a soundcard with 2 outputs, dont try using a splitter since you will get 2 mono outputs)

a) Turn on all the tabs at the top (2 should start off disabled)
b) Get the first song and load it into deck A, play it.
c) move the X-fader all the way over to the first deck.
d) load the second deck with your second track.
e) as long as there's no big differences with the BPM (say 5 for now)
hit the = sign on the second deck so its BPM matches your first
track.
f) use ur fones to select the 2nd deck and play it.
g) Hit the 2 next to loops on the second deck, it should now be
looping, listen to it and if you cant tell its a loop then leave
it.
h) when u feel its kosher (near the end of the track), move the
X-fader to the centre, give it a few seconds then press the
loop button to turn off the loop.
g) Bobs ur uncle, if u've done it right it should sound ok.

This is a real simple way of mixing 2 tracks in Traktor, of course u have to know a few basics about Traktor. But if u have the hardware and want to use traktor, and want to know more, PM me and I will be more than happy to xplain a bit more.

Hope its kosher. Spectra

Thanks bro

I think I'll go for the easy way in Traktor. Don't have have two soundcard or soundcard with two outs. I hope it kocher too

I'll PM you if I get in problems, k?

Mixing tracks on the comp, does it sound good? I guess you still need skillz but can you get it to sound pro?

Posted by spectra on Apr-29-2002 15:06:

ok thats np. Without 2 soundcards u'll just have to make the loops before hand and go on instinct went to fade across.

And yes u can get it to sound 'pro'. I think my mixing is pretty good with Traktor, i've done a 1 hour live set for a party with about 50 people and people said I was good. But take a listen to my transistion under my thread "Whats my Mixing Like". I did that with Traktor DJ Studio, but I pitch bent it by hand rather than using sync. Also used the eq.

I'm gonna listen to it now

Hey, it sounds great man. Fuck, how long have you been doing this shit?

Do you think it possible for me to get some half decent not too horrible sounding mixing in 2-3 days of intense training,eh?

Respek!

well, i'm not sure, it took me a fair amount of time. I've being doing it about 5 months I guess. But I would love to do it with TT's (Why i'm saving, + working hard over Summer ).

But it helped not having a shit latency, then getting a good soundcard. It should be ok tho in a few days (if u work real hard), what soundcard have u got?

I have sb live

Turntables would be really nice yeah, just to spin for fun. I only have one vinyl which is Blaze feat Palmer Brown - My beat.

hmm, that should be ok. Have u got Traktor? coz the demo version of it is useless...

It would also help a lot if you have ASIO drivers from a program such as Cubase.

I just downloaded it, that kazaa is wonderfull.

I was kinda impressed I thought I could get sblive down to 3ms latency but then it only got silent.. shit, I think it runs with latency above ms200!!

Unfortunately sblive doesn't support ASIO drivers.

Traktor looks cool, I'm just about to mix my first two track together.

heh, everything supports ASIO drivers. Just not proper support, it'll still knock a good time off ur latency, it took 50ms off my latency, and it never ever skips. And as for 3ms, Creative Lab's best card I doubt could stream 10ms out of one output (if it can then I would like to hear about it).
