Stephen King's The Mist

Fucking amazing movie!

I've not seen a movie really that terrifying in a long while, and I watch more horror movies than is healthy.

It's still kind of new, so I'll put off discussion until some more people have seen it, but it's definitely worth a watch. Much more than a mere horror movie.

i'll go check it out tonight.

Is it also a commentary on modern-post-consumerist homogenization theory with regard to the family dimensions of Laplanders?

I'd go see that.

Its themes have a bit more to do with the bitterness and tragedy of the human condition as it relates to ethical shamanism and pseudoreligious preachings as well as people's susceptibility to be swayed by its self-fulfilling promises in the midst of unknown horrors. It's a very pessimistic and tragic piece of film that sheds a very dark light on humanity; more importantly, it shows the loss of humanity upon reversion to our primitive inclinations when facing great fears.

Its characters are wonderfully developed (for the space of a 2 hour film) and greatly polarize the audience - you will either love or despise some of them. The movie lies out its story and remains remarkably ambiguous when it comes to its most important themes. It will have you questioning just where the direction of the film is going at every turn and it keeps this unknown element throughout, to great and terrible effect.

Ah, so it's basically about bear attacks and the creation of a culture of fear. Sounds ace.

that's odd, i've heard from 6-7 people that it's one of the 5 worst movies of the last decade.

They need to make Cell into a movie.

edit: Looks like Eli Roth is gonna do it. Nice.

We can't all be from Finnish Lapland.

At least I can dare to dream.

But it's from a short story written by King in 1980. I'm pretty sure that's before the original Fog was made, and I'm not entirely sure if the Fog was based on a novel or a story...

They're dissimilar enough. It's certainly not a carbon copy, as the Mist deals with far different themes and is a lot more frightening.

Don't even compare it with the remake of The Fog though. Good lord.

funny how his "short stories" turn into 4 hour long tests of patience
